Title: Allenvale Cemetery - Completed with thanks
Post by: lindy-lou on Tuesday 11 October 11 13:08 BST (UK)
Hi
Is anybody passing or going to Allenvale Cemetery that would be so kind and have a look to see if there is a headstone and maybe photograph if there is.  I would really appreciate it.

Thank you
Lindy-lou :)

Hi Jamieson

Wow...thank you so much for the kind offer I really appreciate it. Please don't put yourself out there is no rush.

The details I have are, section X/69.  The names I'm looking for on headstone (if one exists) are William Granville Chads d1924 & his wife Jane/Jean Cruickshank d1932.

Looking at map of cemetery layout, section X is across the road from main cemetery in extension created 1907....I can send you copy of map if you would like it.

thanks again

lindy-lou :) :) :)

hi again sun78
looking at map it looks like lair is in extension built in 1931, which is across road from main cemetery, the map i was given relates to section x, this shows lair layout.  what i do have is section layout and i can send that to you, it will give you bearings and i'm sure cemetery staff will point you in right direction.  if you click on green scroll under my profile that will allow you to send me a personnal message with your email address. :)
hope this is of help

My grandfather was buried in Allenvale Cemetery in 1926.  A few years ago a kind Rootschatter took a photo of the site (no stone) for me.  The cemetery looks very well cared for Aberdeen council employees should be very proud.

Hi Lizzie
Thanks for posting photo.  I agree it does look a very well cared for cemetery unlike many others I have visited.
I'm pleased to know that my ggrandparents are resting in such a nice spot.
Hoping to make trip to Allenvale next year.

Aberdeen citizens and the local media would be up-in-arms if our cemeteries were neglected by the council. It's never been an issue in the city nor the shire.

lindy-lou, just curious, but where did you get the map from. Was it the Aberdeen Archives.

Hi Nikki
if you make another couple of posts you will be able to personnal message me with your email address....I'll be happy to send you map, it shows where sections are but no layout of plot numbers.  The only area I have plot layout for is section X

Hi Malky
Map came along with plot number details after I requested a look up from Aberdeen Council.

I've got a map too, I just sent an e-mail to Aberdeen cemeteries to see if they could advise me where my grandfather was buried - I had his date of death.  They e-mailed be back with information about which cemetery it was (Allenvale) plus the grave reference (unfortunately no gravestone) and a map of the cemetery - it was split into 4 as it is so large.  Then to follow that up, they sent me all the details by post and all for free.

Thank you, Lindy-lou. I have family buried there, but have never found them. I'm off next week to do a bit of digging at the council.

Hello Arthur and welcome to Rootschat.

If you contact the cemetery they will send you a copy of the plan showing the plots unless things have changed.  They did this for me a few years ago.

I contacted the council today and was told they wouldn’t offer me a map/plot plan of Allenvale.

Is there a specific way of obtaining it?

Gutted.

If you are going to Aberdeen to visit the cemetery anyway, march into their office and ask to see the map and take a photograph of the bits you are interested in.

If you send me your email address via a pm, I will send you the map I have.  My OH scanned it in quarters as it was a large map, but it's very clear and you could always print the separate pages and then stick them together if you wanted to.
