Title: John Sligo, 5 Drummond Place, Edinburgh 1840
Post by: daval57 on Thursday 13 October 11 20:16 BST (UK)
Does anyone have any Sligo relatives from Edinburgh around 1840?  or perhaps some other connection to 5 Drummond Place.

I ask because I've just acquired an old letter dated 31 December 1840 from a Mr Thomas Lindsay in Glasgow to Mr Sligo at the address in the heading of this post.

Would be happy to pass on if my costs are covered (£5 to cover what I paid including £2 to send recorded delivery within UK), or I could email a high res scan of the letter for free.

I believe this John Sligo was....

born in South Leith, 15 Dec 1794 to John Sligo and Christian Knox.
He died in Heriot and Warriston, 1858.

Can't find him on 1841 census which seems strange since he was there in Dec 1840 and still there in '51.
Spelling of surname?  outside UK?

Hi Dave,

I appreciate that I am replying to an old post, however, I thought it was worth a try.

I am currently profiling some of the past residents of number 5 Drummond Place in Edinburgh. Amongst those I have been researching are the Smith-Sligo family, descendants of John Sligo.

I would be really interested in a copy of the letter, if you still have it. Please let me know if this is possible & how I can make any necessary financial provision for this.

Kindest regards,
Andrea.

Hi Andrea,

I'll still have the original letter but not readily available right now.  It'll be in 1 of several boxes I have left to unpack following a renovation of my house.  I'll bookmark the notification email I got re your post and look for the letter when I can.  Might be some time before I can get back to you.
Unfortunately, although I had the full letter scanned on my computer, it was on an old drive that is in the same boxes!

Dave
