Title: Briton Ferry Floating Dock

For several generations my family  listed their occupation as ferrymen and in the later  years showed the family lived on the Briton Ferry house. I've read what is available about the actual ferry basin but would like to know  what this living arrangement might have been ?

I live in the USA and want to congratulate you on the fine web site. The design is excellent and easy to use. It is better than several sites here in the USA.

If you try the Community Archives Wales site, and search for "Ferry Boat House, Briton Ferry", there is a postcard which has been uploaded by Port Talbot Historical Society.

By hovering over the photo, you can zoom in to see detail, e.g. on the house you can see "Ferry Boat House"

or just search "Briton Ferry", and there are pictures of the Ferry boat and the Docks Basin.

There is a reference in the book "Reminiscences of Briton Ferry and Baglan" by E.
Humphreys, Swansea (West Glamorgan County Council, 1982)

This was written in 1898: "The ferryman in 1837 was the late Solomon Harris, who was a shipwright in the Navy of William IV. Mr. Harris died many years ago. Three of his sons were pilots in this port. The present ferryman is Mr. Cox, who is held in high esteem."
