Title: McDermott - born in Ireland - where???

My problem is trying to find my Great Great GrandParents and all that I know is they were born in Ireland.  Where on earth do I start to search for them????

1851 Census of Halifax Yorkshire 

Patrick McDermott mar 43 born Ireland

Mary McDermott wife 36 born Ireland

Peter McDermott son 17 born Ireland

Cathrine McDermott dau born Ireland

other siblings were born in England - 4 in the Liverpool area 
and 3 in Yorkshire.   I am still trying to find the birth of my Great Grandmother Mary Ann born in Halifax  Yorkshire. 

Any advice would be appreciated

Hello Audrey, 

Ihave been looking at the other information that I have on Patrick and it would seem tha he was born around 1807 - this from 1871 & 1881 in Lancashire and also a death date that may be his.

I would check first for every known relative in the area in the subsequent censuses to see if a county and town or parish is given.

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I don't know if Patrick had any relatives and I don't even know his wifes Christian name as the only Census I can find him on is 1861  and she is not on - it says Married!  so the mystery goes on.  Thank you for taking the trouble to reply.

Are there any other mcdermott's living nearby in any of the censuses? May be related.

Thanks I had not thought of that, I must check that one. Sometimes I give up on a difficult family and go for the easy ones and evey now and again come back to it.
