Title: Jock FISHER, Busselton death 1971
Post by: tfisher88 on Wednesday 19 October 11 14:12 BST (UK)
Robert Stewart Fisher moved to Western Australia some time in early 1930 and worked on the Jetty in Busselton. I received some new information that he was a janitor at the Old Fire Hall on Queen Street. Here is the information I got:

He was a Scotsman who was always known here as 'Jock' Fisher. Jock was not a fireman, he was the 'Fire Station Keeper', [in basic terms a janitor]. He lived in a small room at the rear of the Fire Station building in Queen Street, Busselton and was responsible for security and for keeping the station and equipment clean and tidy.
Jock was a 'loner' who kept very much to himself. Dances were often held at the Station but despite living on the premises, Jock never attended them. Nothing is known about his family origins. He loved his whisky and drank at The Vasse Hotel but he wasn't a habitual drunkard. He smoked a pipe.
He 'worked the boats' at the Busselton jetty, [i.e. he was a dockworker].
He had only two known friends, a Charlie Butcher and a Ron Perkins (both now dead) who often had breakfast with him at the Fire Station on Saturday mornings.
When he died his entire possessions were put into a single suitcase and given to the Red Cross

I hope someone reading this may have rememberd him or even have a photo. Any new information would help greatly.

Thanks

Tim Fisher

Hi Tim
I just 'googled' ...'Robert Stewart Fisher -Busselton' ...and up came his name on a 'Returned & Services League' 'deceased members' board...showing his death 1971.

They have an interesting site ...  with means to 'contact' them.  Hopefully they can help fill in some blanks.

Also .... the 'West Australian State Library' (on-line) has an 'Ask a Librarian' service    ....they will check their records including electoral rolls and newspaper death notices.

'WA State Records' office may also be able to help.
