Looking for census entries (1841-1861) for Christopher Whittenbury JONES, born about 1811, probably Liverpool. He died 1864. Particularly looking for details of his wife and children. He was possibly residing in Manchester in 1851 and 1861.
Thanks

Hi
Also found this submitted record on IGI,
Christopher Whittenbury Jones bn 1811 Liverpool
Died: 2nd April 1864
Parents: Christopher Hird Jones and Selina Whittenbury
Marriage: 29 Dec. 1853 Stockport, Cheshire. Spouse: Elizabeth Ann Higginbotham.

Thanks very much for this, Claire. Yes, I also found that info on the IGI. Wish I could confirm it as I have all the other christenings (transcriptions) for a number of other children of Christopher Hird Jones and Selina Whittenbury.
Is there anything for 1841? I guess that may be a bit hard to find, considering the surname.
If the wife is deceased by 1861, and Christopher by 1864, I wonder what happened to the children? Anything in 1871? I think I have the 3 eldest boys travelling to Australia in 1864. Alfred Whittenbury JONES died in 1942 at the age of 96 in Wangaratta, Victoria.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks very much, Claire.
1841 - looks like his future wife with him too.
I know, Jones is a nightmare - thanks for persisting.

Hi,
If he didn`t marry Elizabeth Higginbotham until 1853 then perhaps he was previously married to another Elizabeth as per the 1851 census? I would think a birth certificate for one of his earlier children would perhaps be in order if you haven`t already got one.
Just a suggestion.

Hi Mo. Thanks for your comment. Yes, of course you are right. I wondered about the discrepency in the dates.

Hi
Think the 1841 census is definitely him, a newspaper item dated Saturday Mar. 07, 1840 of partnerships dissolved says
'Christopher Whittenbury Jones, Edward Benjamin Jackson and Henry William Tippett, of Manchester and of Whitfield, Lancashire spinners.'
***************************************************
I also wonder are there two Christophers? There is also this marriage entry on FreeBMD
Marriages June 1862:
Christopher Whittenbury Jones Bangor vol. 11b page 844
married either, Mary Bromfield or Elizabeth Williams.

There is an entry for Christopher Whittenbury Jones on the Probate Index 4 May 1864
The wil of CW Jones late of Manchester corn and commission agent deceased died 2 April 1864 was proved at Manchester by William Henry Jones of Moreland House Crosby Road Seaforth Liverpool rice miller the brother the sole executor
Effects under £1500 resworn 1872 as under £4000
It might be worth getting a copy of the will and his death certificate to see who registered his death and his status.

Christopher Hird Jones died in 1866 aged 84
He is also in the Probate Index on Ancestry
Died 26 Jan 1866 will proved 9 April effects under £100
Will proved by William henry Jomnes of Moreland House Seaforth Liverpool the SON
So Christopher Whittenbury Jones and William Henry Jones are brothers and the sons of Christopher Hird Jones
CH Jones wife is on the 1851 census but not on the 1861 census so must have died between the two. In 1861 CH is at 43 Everton brow with daughter Harriet.
Gibel
PS in 1851 William henry bn 1822 is with his parents at 5 Everton brow. By 1861 he is married to Margaret and is living in Great Crosby with 2 daughters. BY 1871 the census lists him at Moreland House Crosby Road South Seaforth with quite a few children and servants.

Claire and Gibel - wow, thanks very much for all of this extra information.
Claire - CW was a widower in 1861, therefore the marriage in 1862 on FreeBMD could be his. In saying that, I have found a christening for Maria Hird JONEs at FamilySearch in 1888 in Cheshire, father Christopher Whittenbury Jones and mother Elizabeth!??
If CW did have another wife from 1862, then perhaps Maria is with the wife either Mary or Elizabeth in 1871. Where is Bangor?
Suppose there is another CW - I'll call him CW2, then maybe the 1853 marriage to Elizabeth Higginbotham is his - the entry on IGI has meen submitted by a member; it's not a transcription. Mind you, the christening in 1888 is a long time after 1853! A mystery, that one.
Thanks for the probate information - all very interesting. And now I have death dates for CH and Selina.
As an aside, Selina Whittenbury JONES, daughter of Christopher Hird JONES and Selina WHITTENBURY (and sister to CW JONES) married Charles Lewis WRENSHALL, a music professor and supposedly her music teacher. Charles JONES, another sibling, married Caroline WRENSHALL, sister to Charles Lewis. Charles and Caroline came to Australia, but Caroline returned to England after Charles died in 1850. Two sons then came back to Australia in the 1860s.

Thanks again for your replies, Claire and Gibel.
Good piece of detctive work there, Claire, to find Maria H in 1871 and beyond. And you are probably correct about the adult christening - makes sense. Thanks for telling me where Bangor is.

Hi Shelley, it looks like we are searching the same family tree. I think we are from the descendants of Charles Whittenbury Jones. We are searching out more information on him too. It would be great to chat and compare info. Are you a descendant also?
Hope to hear from you soon!
