I am looking for descendants of Eleanor Ede, nee Whitmore. She was baptised in Reigate in 1809, married Josiah Ede at Buckland in 1828 and lived for the rest of her life in Reigate, dying in 1885 (I think).
Any information welcomed.

'Looking for descendents' as in trying to make contact with living people who are descended from her - or 'looking for descendents' as in researching records of her to see who her children/grandchildren/etc/descendents are
What info do you already have? Do you have her on censuses at all?
Have you looked for her death on FreeBMD?

1841 suggests possibly a previous marriage for Eleanor and maybe Josiah too?
1841

Josiah Ede 35 Ag lab Y
Eleanor Byfield 35 N
Maria Byfield 8 N
Jemima Ede 12 Y
Josiah Ede 10 Y
William Ede 8 Y
John Ede 6 Y
Caleb Ede 4 Y
looks like plenty of descendents here - but remember no relationships are given in 1841, so it is not known which children are Josiah's, which Eleanors, and which both, if any.
But this does suggest that Josiah was not married to this Eleanor in 1828 - I wonder if his first wife was ELeanor Whitmore of Reigate?
Here is the marriage to the Eleanor from Suffolk
Jul/Aug/Sep 1847 Reigate 4 416
Josiah Ede / ELeanor Barfield on same page
Getting the cert would confirm if they were single or widow(er)s, and give Eleanor's fathers name to help trace her roots.

Hi
Many thanks indeed for all this information. I am interested in her because she was the sister of my 2xgreat-grandfather and I think that she, like him, was born while their father was serving in the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars.
I put the message on in the hope that someone might have been tracing her as well and would be able to confirm what I thought.
Anyway, this gives me some more information to work on so many thanks for replying.

Hi Valda
Many thanks for this - obviously it confused me because both his wives were called Eleanor.

Sorry a bit late joining this conversation. I am a descendant of the first wife Eleanor Whitmore. My 2xgrandfather was Caleb born 1836. Often puzzled how he managed to join the Metropolitan Police in 1869. He could obviously read and write sufficiently well to hold down the job until he retired 1895, finally ending his days in Surrey with his son George and family. Considering he was only 18months when his mother died, he did well to survive. One clue was that he named my great grandmother after the mother of the Wesley brothers who founded the Methodist movement. Another item that came out on his police recruitment papers was that he was 5'7" and auburn. So the ginger gene in the family.................

This is what I have - have more going back further.
