What the heck does "split" mean? I received the following notification in my e-mail.
A topic you are watching has been split into two or more topics by aghadowey.

Exactly what it sounds like - some of the posts on that topic have been 'split' off to form a new topic. You'll see the mods do this when a post appears on a thread that doesn't really fit (or should not be there, etc.). It is therefore made into a new topic of its own (or moved elsewhere) in the proper location.
-
And how would one locate the portion that was split off, since the notice only informs you of the location of the remaining part?
-
If it wasn't one of your own posts, I'm not sure - so you had better ask aghadowey
But since it was split off, perhaps it was not at all relevant to your thread.

Tropiconsul,
If you recall, we'd been discussing 'Dunsmore' in Denny, Stirlingshire.
I believe the topic has been split because the discussion became more relevant to Leeds.
If this happens to you again, go to your profile and view your posts. From there, it will hopefully be straightforward to check which thread has been split. You might want to try it just now to see what I mean, and check I'm correct.
I'm signing off now but will check back later.

Thanks for your help. I find no profile for "aghadowey".
I find no protocol that describes how a topic can be split.

I think this should take you to the profile.

aghadowey is a moderater. Only mods can split topics.

The following link will (hopefully) take you to another thread regarding John Dunsmore:

I think there's another thread somewhere, but at the moment, I can't remember where! :-\

Occasionally a topic is split because there is a spam posting added to it. If that is the case the offending post is removed completely and cannot be found so only the original will remain.
