Title: ewington/bourberry 1871 census
Post by: mongoose2 on Thursday 10 November 11 22:03 GMT (UK)
I'm not sure where this lady was in the 1871 census hence posting in the common room.

Sarah Isabella Ewington was born 7/2/1847 in Hatfield Herts however she was known under the surname Bourberry as her mother Sarah Long married Edward Thomas Bourberry in 1851 (I have cert).

Sarah married Arthur Alfred Corner on 11/2/1872 Christchurch Marylebone Middlesex/London however she had a daughter Ellen Clara Ewington in Marylebone 1868 (I have no idea who the father was). This Ellen Clara was living with Sarah Long in 1871 under the name Nelly but thhere is no sign of Sarah Isabella Ewington/Bourberry

As a bonus can anyone find the death of Edward Thomas Bourberry b 28/3/1826 Shoreditch.

Just for curiosity - if mum was Sarah Long - why was daughter Sarah Isabella Ewington?

because when I posted I was under the impression she had married samuel Ewington before she married Edward Bourberry.

I now know she was Sarah Ewington dau of Frederick and Fanny Ewington.

Marriage cert shows her as a spinster and father as Frederick Ewington

Have you seen the 1864 death for Thomas Bourbury in Barnet?  Marriage cert shows him as Edward Thomas

I can't find them in 1861 - but you say you have.  Where were they living?

If it was in Barnet - then it's a good bet the death is his

By the way - I loved his address on the marriage cert - Land of Promise

Sarah is here saying she is married Class: RG9; Piece: 822; Folio: 32; Page: 24 1861 census. Edward is their son and Elizabeth S is Sarah Isabella Ewington the girl I am looking for in 1871. By 1871 sarah her mother says she is a widow. I suspect Edward Thomas has been off the scene and isnt actually deceased in 1871.

Hi
I am tracing Ellen Clara's tree. I was told by my mother-in law that GT GT granma Clara was illegitimate  she told me that Sarah (isabelle), who also looks as if she was born out of wedlock, got pregnant by some posh chap while working in service on St Michael's Mount in Cornwall. I haven't bought either Sarah Isablle's or Ellen Clara's birth cert yet. I've got a feeling that as they both have there mother's maiden name they are unlikely to put who the father truely was. I have no eveidence to back this up so it could all be wishful thinking unfortunately family stories do tend to be rather tall
