I'm trying to find out who Clara's mother was.

Clara was born Dec 1890 in Rainton, married Daniel Cuttiford in 1919, remarried after his death, and died Clara Friskin Sep 1971 in Bolton. From Clara and Daniel's marriage cert I've got her father as Enoch Rigby (deceased).

I've hit a dead end now though

In the 1891 census your Clara is in Tyldesley with Shakerley with grandparents Arthur William & Mary Louisa Davies.  With them is Arthur & Mary's daughter Emily M Rigby (23) and her children: Joseph, Martha & Clara.

So I would guess this is the marriage of Clara's parents:

Jul-Sep 1887
Wigan
Emily Matilda Davies / Enoch Rigby

1901 has Clara, siblings and mother Emily with stepfather James Leader, living in Bolton.

Thanks both. I did find the 1901 record but wasn't sure because I couldn't find a marriage for Emily and Enoch. The 1891 lists Clara as stepdaughter rather than granddaughter which confused me more :p

My grandmother was Clara Rigby who married Daniel Thomas Cuttiford...

Ok, found out more details, Mary Elizabeth was my auntie, she was my Violet my mothers youngest sister. Au ty Mary's steps were Brenda, Jimmy, and the rest were billy, Susan, Sharon and Neville. Which one are you from?
