Hello, I have just joined this forum and thought I would start with my first enquiry. I have traced my fathers family (Wright) back to Mousehole, Cornwall and wondered if anyone can help me get back a bit further. The furthest I have got is to my GG Grandfather, Martin Wright (born abt 1811 in Mousehole)who Married Sarah (Sally )Tonkin (also from Mousehole). The Interesting part of the history is that Sarah was previously married to Frances Rouffignack, a local man who died at sea shortly after their marriage in 1826 (approx) leaving her pregnant. The child was also named Frances Rouffignack after his father. Sarah went on to marry my relative Martin Wright and had a number of children with him including Jesse. Jesse then became the first of a long line of Jesse Wrights down to my father born in 1918.
I can't seem to find any record earlier than Martin and Sarah Wright (nee Tonkin) who married in Mousehole in the 1820's. They were living in Regent Terrace, Mousehole during the 1841 census. Martin must have been part of a local fishing family but I can't find a record of his birth or find out who his parents were. Ancestry.co.uk has helped me so far but as the earliest census is 1841 I don't know where to look for earlier records? If anyone has Cornish links that could help me I would appreciate it. Amanda

Hi Amanda and welcome to Rootschat. :)
Here are 2 excellent sites for researching Cornwall
http://west-penwith.org.uk
and
http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org
The latter has a number of baptisms for the name Martin Wright in the parish of Paul which covers Mousehole.
If you need any more help after checking those sites do ask.

I had exhausted census records and needed to find parish records but didn't know how to find it online. Wonderful to have a forum like this with so many experienced searchers to help. Amanda
