Can anyone help with information relating to the birth of Elizabeth Maria Davies born abt 1843? She married a William John Lewis in 1868 and lived in Pill Road, Steynton for the rest of her life, giving her birth place as Pill on each of the subsequent censuses. In 1871 and 1881 she listed herself as Elizabeth Lewis and in the 1891 census as Elizabeth M Lewis so I presume she could have been christened as just Elizabeth Davies as I can find no record of a Elizabeth Maria Davies in the BMD or 1851 or 1861 census.
If anyone has access to the Steynton (?) parish records I would be extremely grateful for a lead on her parents' names. Thanks in advance.

It could be although there is another Elizabeth Davies living as a servant in Charles St, Milford Haven giving her dob as c1843 and pob as "Milford". I'll give yours a try first though and see if I can get some sort of tie up. Bah! "Elizabeth" and "Davies"....two of the most common names in the county at that time...hehehe.
Thanks

It was the address at Pill Road, Steynton that caught my eye?! ;D
Coincidence?

Hopefully not although the trail dries up again when I attempt to go back another 10 years. Maybe the fact that she is a mariner's wife suggests they may have moved around a bit, although the children all seem to be born in Steynton/Pill. I'll keep digging but thanks for the help to date.

In view of the comman name, it's probably best to buy the marriage certificate and/or birth certificate?
The other thought I had was that maybe she was a widow when she married in 1868?
And so Davies was her married nasme, not her maiden name? ???

An Elizabeth Maria Davies was baptised at Steynton in 1847. An Elizabeth Davies was baptised at Steynton in 1843.
There are no others with both fornames baptismed in the established church for the period or in the area.

Don't know if this helps, but I'm also looking for an Elizabeth Davies (possibly Elizabeth Maria), b 1861 to John Davies and Maria (nee Hatfield, d. of Edward Hatfield, Miller). John and Maria had a son Charles in 1854. John then disappears and surfaces in New Zealand, 1893 as a Market Gardener in St Leonards near Dunedin. Maria appears in a later census as the wife of Thomas Meredith, and Elizabeth is labelled a Meredith. Charles later calls her his sister, and the understanding was full sister. Don't know if John and Maria ever divorced. Hard to find out from australia....
Charles also had a daughter Elizabeth Maria Davies b. 1881 in Townsville, Qld. She was in Australia till about 1900, but we cannot find a marriage or death reference for her. She may have gone to NZ near Grandpa John.
