Hi,
does anybody have any details on the family tree of jimmy Wilde, the famous boxer who lived in Tylorstown?
I am interested because my Grandfather John Thomas (who was born in Llanhilleth 1913) mentioned a couple of times that Jimmy was a cousin of his, I'd be very interested in finding out more details. The maiden name of my Grandfathers Mother was Price.
Any info would be greatly appreciated,

Jimmy's miner father was James Wilde (b c1868, Llanfabon); his mother was Margaret Ann (nee Evans) (b c1873, Ferndale). Their marriage was registered in Pontypridd - which covered the whole of the Rhondda - in the last quarter of 1890.
Jimmy had an older sister, Mary Ann (b c1891), two younger sisters, Catherine L (b c1896) and Ellen Jane (b c1899) and a younger brother, Elias John (b 1901). There may have been later children.
His parents' marriage broke down and some of the children went into care before being reunited in the home of the recently married Jimmy and his wife, Elizabeth (nee Davies).
Jimmy and Elizabeth had sons David (b 1910) and Verdun (b 1916 and named after the battle then raging).

google james wilde there is lots of in fo and pictures. he was my grandfathers cousin my grand father was thomas gillgrass from tylorstown. all the best haydon. jimms wife was elizabeth davies she was my grandfathers sisters daughter.how is your grand father conected to jimmy and elizabeth

I'm still trying to find out the details of the connection, my Grandfather, (John Thomas, sometimes called Jack), was born in Llanhilleth. He mentioned a few times that he was Jimmy Wildes cousin but thats all I know at the moment, boxing did seem to run in the family a bit, he had two other cousins who did well in the army team.
Do you live in Tylorstown?

hi no i live in cwmbran. do you know who his parents where.where any of them a gillgrass.this might be connection . all the best. i do not know if this is correct but a john thomas married Margaret Ann gillgrass i 1886. Margaret had a sister who was Sarah gilligrass she married a dai Davies they had a daughter Elisabeth born 1894 who married jimmy Wilde . haydon

my Grandfathers parents were William Thomas and Sarah Ann Thomas, (but her maiden name was Price).

any idea their birth dates or when they got married have found marriage 1902 is this correct or where they got married still trying to find connection to jimmy wilde all the best haydon . gillgrass family in llanilleth are related to my grand father

My Grandfathers parents were married around 1888, I have some census details on them. William was a coal miner, not sure which pit though.
I should have asked more questions when both my Granparents were alive, but I was quite young then. My Grandmothers family were from Aberdare.
Have you been researching your family tree long? How far have you got?

have found marriage 1889 march newport m. what census have you found them. with gillgrass famiy i hae gone back 1600. in 1861 they were in aberdare. haydon

Cheers Haydon, :) I have the census details for 1901 and 1911 for my Great Grandparents, (my Grandfather was born in 1913 so he's not on there, but the address and other names of his brothers and sisters match up though).
I notice that on my Grandfathers marriage certificate that one of the witnesses who signed was a D.T Davies, might be a common name then, (or might be from what you told me before, the husband to Sarah Gillgrass).
You have done well to trace the gillgrass family back to 1600, thats great.

Well here goes i hope someone will reply. Jimmy Wilde is my 3 great uncle. My great granfather was William Davies his mother name was Ann Jane Wilde. what I'm told is that Ann Jane father went to war and never come back. I'm yet to find out who her birth father is. I'm not yet found out who her birth mother is also, iv got to order her birth certificate to find that out. her birth parents must have gotten married for Ann Jane to carry the Wilde name. can any of the jimmy Wilde family fill in the blanks please.

Hi am trying to sort my Ashby family tree. My great grandmother is Ellen Wilde ( known as Sarah Ellen ) her brother is Jimmy Wilde.
She moved to Nottinghamshire area when she married Mr Ashby.
So I think that makes Jimmy my Great Great Uncle. Any family tree for Wilde would really help please?

My sister and cousins have been trying to find out about a connection our family may have to Jimmy Wilde. They all remember our grandmother Mary Ann Davies talking about Jimmy and showing them photos of him but can't see how he's related to us. I know Jimmy's wife was Elizabeth Ann Davies, her father I believe was David Davies and both my grandmother and grandfather were Davies's from Fochriw and Pontlottyn but before that from Merthyr, who later settled near Pontypool. I've been researching my family tree for 13 years but failed to find where Jimmy connects to it and would love to find some answers so would welcome any help.

I believe I am correct in saying that Jimmy Wilde was born on The Graig at Quakers Yard. As this is in the parish of Llanfabon and nowhere near Tylorstown perhaps it would be better to start your search there.

Hello, I've just seen that your Grandfather was a Thomas. My Nan was Irene Warlow - her mother was Caroline Thomas and my Nan said that she was also related to Jimmy Wilde. I don't have much information on Caroline Thomas's side of he family but wonder if they are related?

Hi there I'm another one who is supposedly related to Jimmy Wilde.
My maternal grandmother Margaret Edge ( nee Bracegirdle) 1900 - 1967 stated that she was related to Jimmy.
Margaret's parents were James Bracegirdle and Sophia Wild ( 1857 - 1926).
Sophia's parents were William Wild (c1820 - 1886 ) and Mary Sheldon.
I have not been able to pin down William's birth ( supposedly in Macclesfield Cheshire).
In 1841 census living in Macclesfield were Nancy Wilde age 70 / Sarah Wilde age 40 and William Wilde age 20. Sarah and William were Silk Weavers. In later census there seems to be a link to Salford.
I've done some research on Jimmy but can't see any obvious connections.
Does any of the above ring bells for anyone?
