Hello Llanty
It seems that Hazar and Maud (Maude) had a great many children born in New Zealand. ;)
Sometimes it helps to bring descendants forward, if we list the names of children.
DIXON Births
1881 - Annie
1881 - George
1887 - Daisy Hannah
1889 - Emma Patience
1890 - Robert Charles
1892 - Tom
1893 - Ida Maude
1896 - ** Child's name not recorded **
1897 - Dulcie Mildred
All these children have parents named as ...
Maude Eveline (or Maude Evelyn) and Hazar (sometimes indexed incorrectly as "Hagar")
-
AND ... these further births where mother's name has been indexed as "Maud" :
DIXON
1877 - Charles Alfred
1878 - Henry
1879 - Laura Pamala
1882 - Isabell Mary
1884 - Millicent
1886 - Nellie
1900 - Arley
Parents : Maud Evelyn ( or Eveline) and Hazar (or Hagar)
-
Hi Llanty
You may have already seen this brief obituary published for Hazar ??
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz
"Northern Advocate" -- 22 September 1916 - Local & General
[It mentions his survivors as being "Mrs DIXON and several children" (unnamed) ... so it may be that some of the children listed in the birth indexes perhaps did not reach adulthood ?]

Wow this really does work! Thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to reply. Some of the information I already have, particularly the stuff from Brampton, Huntingdonshire. The extra information re Hazar/Hazor/Hagar etc is particularly useful. I have someone who is taking a photo of his gravestone and am particularly keen to come up with photos of anyone on that side of the family. Thanks a lot Carole W , Lucy2 and Janette

Hi
This is not my family but in the stack of info found while investigating my 'rare' family name, is:
NZ MARRIAGE:
1920 SMITH Leo Joseph/DIXON Emma Patience
SMITH Leo Joseph - died 23 June 1951 aged 71 years, at Wanganui; husband of Emma Patience; it then lists 3 daughters and 5 sons ['Wanganui Chronicle' 25 June 1951}
SMITH Emma Patience - died 18 December 1980 aged 91 years at home, 6 Mason Terrace, Wanganui; then lists 3 daughters (with married names) and 5 sons ['Wanganui Chronicle' 19dec1980]
If you PM me, I can supply the names of the children - but it looks as if most are still alive.
Best wishes
Elli

My Grandmother Adalaide Bowyer had 5 children to Hazar's son Charles Alfred Dixon> They weren't married and all the children took the surname Bowyer. He later married another woman and had a son called Cyril before he died in 1918.

Hello, I m related to Hazar and found out about his occupation as an animal pound keeper from newspaper records.
I asked the local librarian to send me a photo of his gravestone and was delighted with it but unfortunately it simply had his name on it but no other family information or even a date of death.
I have often wondered about his name and wondered if it could have been a contraction of Balthazar? My own great uncle was named Moses Thomas Dixon and I have lots re him and of course of my father Mervyn Watkin Dixon whose father was Fred William Dixon, his Frederick Cornelius and back to the cousin Hazar.
I would love to know your connection and any info about Hazar's journey to New Zealand. I did have some info about a trip via Malaya but cannot confirm this.
I am Catherine, Mervyn's daughter by the way.
Regards to you and the family!!
Cathy
-
Hi Catherine, nice to hear from you. I'm the grand-daughter of Ada Bowyer who had 5 children to Hazar's son Charles Alfred. She also had another 5 children to Joseph Colquhoun who is my grandfather. So I'm not related at all really. I don't have any information on him other than what's on this site, and info about Charles' descendants. One of my cousin's who is Hazar's great grand-daughter is interested and I could find out if she wants more info.

Charles Alfred Dixon was the first of 16 children born to Hazar Dixon (1846-1916) & Maud Eveline Clark (1858-1932)
-
Hazar Dixon arrived into Auckland 2 June 1865 on the Lancashire Witch
-
Sorry if this is repeated. His birth listing shows him as Azer:
DIXON, AZER mmn SHARMAN

The family on the 1841 census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M772-NXK

-
thankyou Jamjar,
yes have found a number of different spellings for first and surname (Dickson is common mistake)
also see 16 children of Hazar Dixon (http://www.familytreecircles.com/hazar-dixon-new-zealand-69117.html)
-
Possible christening for mother, Sarah Sharman, parents Robert and Sarah.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N856-YH4
Charles and Sarah had two Robert’s. The first born 1849 died in 1850. The second was one of the twins born in 1852.
Jamjar
-
how can twins be born 2-3 years apart?
-
Gaye,
Jamjar means they had a Robert born in 1849 who died in 1850
Then they had a set of twins in 1852, one of whom they named Robert
-
oh I see thanks for the clarification
-
Hi, my fathers great grandfather was Charles. Im really interested in find any information about anything if someone has anything...
-
I have a copy of the family tree of Charles, Hazars son.
