Welcome to Rootschat. I've moved your post from Ireland Resources (which is not for queries) to Galway board. If you can give us an idea of dates, provide any other details you may have and tell us exactly what sort of information you are looking for we might be able to help.

Sorry, but those dates aren't much help. Any idea when they were born? names of children?

The only 2 surviving census records for that period are 1901 and 1911- both are online, free-

Possibly the same family-
Catherine D'Arcy born 15 Apr 1867 Portumna district, Co.Galway (page 485 in civil register)- parents James D'Arcy & Anne Bohan.

Duniry is the name of a townland and parish in Portumna Poor Law Union/Registration district. In 1901 there are 36 people living in Duniry and by 1911 only 20- but none named Darcy.

Hello eloise and welcome to rootschat.  :)

As aghadowey says, it would be best if you could furnish more specific detail.
Did your family stay in the area?
What kind of information are you searching?

There is a birth of a Catherine D'Arcy 1867 with those parents.

regards
heywood

sorry- delayed posting and then say your post aghadowey

Their daughter, Annie Darcy immigrated to the U.S. I have varying ages for her birth, 1865 and 1875.
She joined her sister, Margaret in the Boston area. I've been told she had sisters Eleanor and Bridget
and brothers Thomas, Michael and James.
She did visit family in Duniry in1911.

Perhaps the family in Duniry in 1911 weren't named Darcy- there are no Darcys there in either census as I mentioned earlier. However, if you search for Darcys in the same D.E.D. as Duniry (Tynagh) there are some- see here (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=1911&surname=darcy&firstname=&county=&townland=&ded=Tynagh&age=&sex=&search=Search&relationToHead=&religion=&education=&occupation=&marriageStatus=&birthplace=&language=&deafdumb=&marriageYears=&childrenBorn=&childrenLiving=). However, remember that Duniry is both a townland and the name of a parish so Tynagh D.E.D. might not cover all the parish.

Civil registration of births began in 1864 so perhaps Annie and other siblings were born before that date. The usual advice for people trying to search for Irish ancestry is to start in the country your family went to (in this case U.S.) and check all available records for information and then see what records you can find in Ireland (once you know the family's religion and where they lived you can see if any church records survive).

thank you for your quick responses. I know Annie's sister Eleanor's married name was Brady.
My grandmother also told me that Bridget Darcy married a frenchman, Borden/Bordine and had a son
Charles who became a priest and even was a missionary to China.

This looks good then eloise

Eleanor Brady (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Tynagh/Lachabaun/1396815/)

This is from 1901, you can then look at 1911 to check the family.
Don't forget to scroll down and click on Household returns forms too.

Possible here also:

Anne D'Arcy (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Tynagh/Lachabaun/1396810/)

1911 for Anne shows 15 children born , 7 of whom are still living.

Darcy/Bohan (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Tynagh/Bracklagh/473327/)  could also be related.

Thank you again.  I have been trying to find the birth records for the children of Annie Bohan and James Darcy.
Managed to find Michael D'Arcy born in 1851 and Catherine D'Arcy born on April 15, 1867.
I don't think my great grandmother was truthful about her age. Immigration records show she came to Boston in 1881.

Hi I have just joined this forum. Are you still looking for information of Darcy's originating from Lakabaun Duniry/Tynagh.

I am the great grand son of James Lawrence and indeed Great Great Grand Son of Anna and James Thomas D'Arcy. I have a bit of info on them.

My Grand Father James Lawrence was raised in Duniry. He appears in both the 1901 census and 1911 census.

I am looking for assistance in tracing my 3rd Grandfather and grandmother John & Brigid D’Arcy (nee Kemple). It is most likely that they hailed from the Duniry / Lakabaun area in east Galway.
John and Brigid had two children James Thomas D'Arcy born on 17th April 1817 and who passed away on April 20th 1890 and one other son Michael D'Arcy.
John Darcy married Anna Bohan born October 19th 1826 and who passed away February 15th 1915.
John and Anna Darcy reared nine (9) children 1. Mary Dillon (nee D’Arcy), 2. Michael D’Arcy, 3. James Lawrence D'Arcy, 4. Margaret Elizabeth Glynn (nee D'Arcy), 5. Eleanor Brady (nee D’Arcy), 6. Annie Gildea (nee D’Arcy), 7. Catherine (Kate) Nolan (nee D'Arcy), 8. Thomas F D'Arcy and 9. Bridget Boudine (nee D'Arcy).
Particularly interested for birth, marriage and passing dates for John and Brigid D’Arcy and in addition a   wedding date for John Darcy and Anna Bohan.

Many thanks for your prompt replies. I came across the record number 249 for two  Brigid Darcys before but discounted them both. The first as the witness present was a Julie Darcy who we don't have in the family. In addiction 58 appeared to be too young as  her son Thomas was born in 1817.

The second was dismissed as the witness present was a Judy Darcy and we don't have a Judy Darcy in the family (as far as I am aware). In addition the location was Portumna which is a number of miles away from Lakabaun.

Once again many thanks
Regards
Derek

So you not looking for Anne's parents, you looking the parents of her husband James.

Have you checked the parish registers?

I have tried theparish registers. But they don't go back to the late 1700s. I have tried the parish register for that diocese Clofert/Ballinakill starts at 1839.

Thanks

The register of the parish or surrounding parishes if the bride was from a neighbouring parish is the only place you can find that type of information at such early dates, particularly for RC folk.

Many people don't have death certs, they are not required for burial in Ireland as they are in some other countries so people just didn't bother registering the death as the cert was never needed for anything. Until the 1900s most people didn't own any land, farms were leased from landlords so apart from a few personal belongings there was nothing to inherit so no will was required, few families could afford headstones, graves were marked with a large stone or plant of some type and few churches kept burial registers so peoples deaths while marked by their loved ones at the time were never recorded on paper or stone unless a later generation put their names on a headstone but this depends on the later generation knowing the names of their great grandparents etc. and where they were buried.
