This site aims to assist family researchers, and contains information about British men and women who were born, married, died, served in the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Marines, the British Army, were residents on the island, or in some manner are connected with Malta.

However it is not exclusively British, citizens of Malta and other European countries are included, as well as people from other parts of the world.

Greetings bendywendy,
In April 1901 my grandmother. Mary Barnes, was a 23 year old servant in London.  In November 1903, she married John Rothwell Haslam (a British soldier who she did not previously know) in Valletta, Malta.  I have no idea exactly why or when she went to Malta, or how she got there.  Do you know how young people would have travelled from London to Malta in the early 1900s? - Was it by train across Europe to Italy and then ferry to Malta or were there ships from London or Southampton that stopped off at the island?  The period is a blank space in my story of her so I would appreciate anything you can tell me.  Incidentally, her address in Malta before her marriage (according to the marriage certificate), was 26 Piazza Miratore, Floriana - do you know what that area would have been like in 1903?
Thanks, JB

Hi jbarnes
I am very sorry for the very late reply to your message.
I suggest you place this on a London board and see if anyone can help you there.

Oh that is a shame fanbrother, I can see we can still browse the information currently. Lets hope that they don't loose all this data.

Hello nannysandra, and welcome to RootsChat :)

Further up this page, TreeSpirit gave a link to the archived version of the site.  I've just checked it and it appears to be working - here it is: https://web.archive.org/web/20180722210453/http://website.lineone.net/~stephaniebidmead/

Start by clicking on 'Indexes' on the right-hand side.  Good luck!

Carol
