G'day folks
Hope someone can help me with finding the parents/siblings of my GGG Grandfather Thomas ROCHE b County Antrim Ireland. He was married to a Elizabeth MITCHELL who was also from the same era/place.
I have hit a brickwall and would appreciate any help.
Many thanks

Are you sure it's County Antrim? (Roche is more common in other parts of Ireland) When did Thomas and his wife leave Ireland. Unfortunately, civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages started in 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages) so before those dates you'd need to see if any church records survive but to do so you'd need to know both the family's religion and where they lived (parish if not actual townaland).
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html) and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html).

Hi Tern
was his DOB 1800 or did you mean 1800s?
Ancestry Ireland have a few records for Thomas Roches, born,1830,1838, 2 in 1846, and 2 in 1876,
as you may know this is a pay to view site.
regards
jim

Dear all - sorry for vagueness.
My GG Grandfather is Thomas ROCHE and was born abt 1833 in Belfast, County Antrim. He was married to an Elizabeth Betsy SMITH/WALKER same era and place.
They both migrated to Aust in 1852 and had a swag of children out here including my G Grandmother Martha ROCHE. She married an Alexander Stewart MALCOLM.
I believe Thomas's father was Thomas ROCHE born abt 1800 who was married to Elizabeth MITCHELL same era. Both have place listed as only County Antrim. Then again, I could be right up the wrong garden path.
Shall look into this further - any tips/help is most appreciated.
Cheers

Oh yes, and to my knowledge Thomas ROCHE senior did not migrate to Aust, only Thomas ROCHE Jnr.

Hello Tern,
I know this is an old post but I only just came across it. Thomas ROCHE and Elizabeth MITCHELL were also my 3 X grandparents. The two records in Kim's reply to you are correct. Thomas Jnr was baptised on 8 August 1830, St Patrick's, Belfast City, Down and Connor Diocese.
I am the G granddaughter of Elizabeth Anne Roche and Stephen Millar.
Cheers
Wendy
