Hi,
I am trying to trace Joseph & Elizabeth Ritchie after 1881 Census, could SKS please do a look up please.
In 1881
Joseph 29 & Elizabeth Ritchie 28 (nee Wilson)
Thomas Ritchie 5
George Wilson Ritchie 3
Annie Isabella 1 month
lived at Burn Cottages Long Benton
Joseph's occ was Cellarman
I have looked every where, I wonder if they went to Ireland as I had a free trial of Ancestry and found a entry for a Caroline Wilson b.1881 Belfast Antrim
Fathers name George Wilson
Mothers name Elizabeth Ritchie Wilson
Elizabeth's maiden name was Wilson and thought it may have a connection. Maybe Joseph died and Elizabeth remarried.
Appreciate any help

Can you always include their birthplaces please - 1881 shows all b Newcastle Northumberland
I can't see them in 1891
Maybe Joseph died and Elizabeth remarried
Have you checked freebmd for a death/re-marriage www.freebmd.org.uk
As Joseph was alive in 1881 - a death/remarriage/birth of Caroline all in 1881 are a bit improbable
-
Possible death??
Joseph Ritchie aged 40 September qtr 1893 Newcastle upon Tyne 10b 95
-
On 1891 census the family is at 42 Elswick Rd, Westgate, Newcastle.

So no challenge finding them eh???
Well done Michael - I spent ages using all permutations but that beats the lot
Looking at the image - I sympathise with the transcriber - looks like Hitchen or Kitchen
Now - for 1901 (I think Geordie Lass & I have Elizabeth post 1901)
Additional children on 1891 as follows - all b Newcastle:
Dorothy 7
Elizabeth 5
Christina 3
James W 1 died June qtr 1891
Alexander A 1
-
1901 - Dorothy is a servant in Newcastle

Carole,
I also tried many search permutations until I struck lucky with " george w "
Transcriber also made it more difficult by transcribing the enumerator's abbrev. of Elizabeth ie Elizt, as Eliza.

I forgot to mention my Grandfathers full name. SORRY!
George Wilson Ritchie.
Burns Cottages Longbenton is next door to the Victory pub. Victory was Lord Nelson's ship at Trafalgar.
Joseph probably worked at the Victory as a cellarman.
The Ritchie's originated from Northumberland ,working as farm hands before moving to Askew Rd Gateshead. Here they worked on the railway at Newcastle Central Station.
Areas where they lived in Northumberland. GREAT RYLE/BOLTON/GUYZANCE/BOULMER/VIEW LAW(LONG HORSLEY).
George married Margaret MacOnochie 03/12/10.

Hi i'm also researching the family of Joseph Ritchie born 1853 at Longhorsley, Morpeth, Northumberland. His father was Thomas Ritchie born 1803 at Great Ryle, Northumberland. His Mother was Ann Turnbull born between 1811 and 1816 at Morpeth, Northumberland. I'm looking for Ann's parents if anyone knows?
Thank you
