Title: Ball Family
Post by: ZIGSHAR on Sunday 29 January 12 03:43 GMT (UK)
I'm currently trying to trace the Ball family who lived on Milbourne Ave, Drumcondra as seen in the 1901 and 1911 Census. My Grandad Charles Ball was one of 9 children in that household born to James and Sarah. The family of Charles is still very well connected between Ireland,England, Canada and Australia but we wonder where the decendents of the other children in that family may be. We were told that Mary Ball emigrated to the USA (year unknown). Curious if anyone out there may be connected.

A slightly different occupation for James, but it looks like the family still lived at Millbourne Avenue in  Thom's 1914 as follows :

  James Ball, dairy, Hollywell cottage

There are similar listings in 1921 and 1930 for a Jas. Ball, but there are no sign of them at Millbourne in 1938.

Thank you for the information but I have the marriage cert for James and Sarah and the birth record for James. The family search record records the birth for James Peter as the 26th of June 1880 but this could be mistake.

Hi
I am interested in John Joseph Donohoe.

My John Joseph married a Margaret Caffrey in the Pro Cathedral in 1894. At the time of his marriage he was living on Upper Dorset Street.

Is this John Joseph in your husbands family tree ?

I think that O'Donohoe/Caffrey marriage is from the IrishGenealogy website rather than FamilySearch.

Hi
I am a descendant of Thomas Dingle and Margaret Howard origns Baldoyle since 1760s and Fairfield ,Glasnevin their descendants are neighbours of the Ball family 1901 and 1911 including my grandmother Mary Kennedy age 12 staying with the Dingle's in 1901.
They had a son Thomas born circa 1867 and i was wondering if he is the same Thomas married to Jane Ball whos children appear on Irish Genealogy 1894 to 1899 and 1901 Census of  10 Cumberland St listed as
Thomas Dingle age 33
Jane age 32 nee Ball
Anne age 1
Anne Ball age 81 mother in law ,is this your James mother? by 1911 this family seem obliterated with two of the children buried Glasnevin Thos Joseph born 1898 died 3months Margaret born 1894 died 1898 age 3
Anne born 1899 may be at 12 Main St,Celbridge with a sister ? Kate in foster care? in 1911.
Thomas the father seems to be back with the Dingle family in Findlater St in 1911 but he has'nt aged much since 1901
Jane appears to be buried in Glasnevin in 1909 age 37.
any thoughts on this connection or just coincidence.

Ran a search on Family search and found a Jane Ball born 1869 dtr of John Ball and Anne Kearns at Cody Lane Either Thomas Dingle or one or two of his siblings were born at Cody Lane in the 1860s.

I noticed that by the 1911 census James Ball is married to Kate and living with son James 2 years at 15 Millbourne Avenue. His remaining family are living at number 9 Millbourne Ave and again the Dingle connection with John Dingle aged 9 living at number 9 with perhaps his father Christopher living with the Kennedy's at number 11.

Post by: ourgang on Saturday 15 February 14 09:45 GMT (UK)
That link to Cody Lane is exciting.
Found on Irish Genealogy, Mary Ball, Glasnevin, born 8/12/1858, baptised St Michans 13/12/1858,
parents John Ball and Anne Kearns
and Anne Josephine Ball address incorrect as Cony Lane born 18/11/1863 baptised 20/11/1863 St Michans.
James Ball is 64 in the 1911 census estimated birth 1847 and he gives his birth Place as Glasnevin, he could be the eldest child of your Anne Ball.

Had a good fiddle around on Irish Genealogy and Family Search and have come to the possible conclusion that these are all related through Kearns line, having members of Ball family as sponsors etc, some of the names have various spellings.

baptism Bridget Mary Wallbridge 1875 Cody Lane sponsors James Ball and Margaret Allen
George Wolderidge 1866 Cody Lane sponsors James and Ann Ball.
Children of Philip Allen and Mary Kearns on Irish Genealogy
and a possible step further up the Kearns Tree
Marriage of Catherine Kearns dtr of Andrew and Margaret Kearns ,Corry Lane to Owen Weldridge 1865.

I have a marriage cert for Mary Ball, Father John Ball, Dairyman( a minor in 1875 when she married) William Mercer. This is most likely the same Mary Ball you found born 1858 which would make her 17/18 when she married.
James born 1847 is most likely her brother, he married Sarah Mc Donnell in Nov 1875, (have this cert)
John Dingle (9) on the Ball Family 1911 census is a (nephew) of the family, but not sure of who?'James or Sarah?
James and Sarah's son James, is the James Ball and Mary KATE O'Reilly you see in the 1911 census. The Ball family are all direct relatives of my husband.   Mary Caroline Ball (known as Caroline) and daughter of James and Sarah, was my husbands grandmother. Love to know more about the Dingle connection.

There is a possibility as Jane Ball/Dingle did'nt die till 1909 that she could be John Dingle's mother, and if she is the sister of James senior would make John nephew.
Birth Dublin North
April June 1902 John Dingle

I came upon the Ball blog while looking for details of a John Dingle who was killed aged 26 in the 1st World War on the 3rd Nov 2014. I was fascinated reading through the Ball family lineage. I knew straight away before looking that there was a link with the Dingle family. Please see my Dingle family tree on ancestry.co.uk for further details. I also have a lot of other information from my cousin who still lives in Dublin. He is the son of my father's sister Elizabeth Dingle. My father was John Dingle. There are also connections between the Dingle family and the Hart, Murphy, Harley, Weir and Callan families.

With Kind regards
Brigitte Dingle

Hi. I'm picking up a very old thread about the Ball and Dingle families.

I have far too much material to post in just one shot. It covers the families Ball, Dingle, Moore, O'Neill for over 10 generations and across 4 continents.

28/01/1894 Thomas Dingle married Jane Ball on (daughter of John Ball & Anne Ball - née Kearns). Amongst other children (Margaret - 17/11/1894, Mary Teresa - 01/08/1896, Thomas Joseph - 16/06/1897), they had Anne Eva (29/10/1899), Kathleen (23/08/1905) and Christine (28/12/1907).
Anne & Kathleen were placed in foster-care at Cellbridge, Co Kildare. Christine became a domestic servant in England.

Anne/Annie Eva (won a lottery & bought a shop & house) married Richard Moore in 1920. They were friendly with & entertained Joe Lawless, Sean T O'Casey, Dan Breen & Frank Aiken in their house on the North Circular Road  (5 children: Maria/Maire, Kathleen/Kay, Carmel, Eamonn, Bernadette/Bernie). Later moved the shop to the Whitworth Rd & home to St Bridgids Rd.

Kathleen married Joseph/Joe McDermott in 1938 (no children).

Christine married Horace Gruby in 1942 (1 daughter, Patricia - married to John B Rose in 1964)

If any of this is of interest, let me know & I'll try to find time to post more.
