Hi Does anyone have any info on the Gadd family of Southampton. The only info I have is Amelia Elizabeth Gadd born 1906 married Micheal Stanton in 1927 in Southampton.I believe she had 2 sisters and her fathers name was Alfred. Regards Jaro

Using the Southampton marriage and birth for the daughter Amelia I looked for a marriage for an Alfred Gadd 1900 to 1907. There were surprisingly more than I thought there would be but only one in Southampton, to either Rosina de Baker or Lavinia Biddlecombe.
You can do a free search on findmypast for Amelia born 1906. She's there in Southampton
You can also just put in the surname Gadd and the place of residence Southampton. Don't enter any dates. An Alfred Ernest b1874 and a Rosina 1878 are there but no Lavinia so it is most likely that Alfred married Rosina de Baker.
There is the birth of a Rosina H Gadd, Southampton, mother's maiden name DeBecker in 1918 vol 2c page 72. It has another entry for the same birth details with mother's maiden name down as DeBacker

thankyou very much for that information,I will work on it and see what I come up with. Jaro

Having trouble finding the Rose De Backer on the 1891 census. There are many varieties of spellings I can't find anything under De Backer/De Backer, Debacke(a)r/De baker. There are these two.
Sept 1/4 1876
Rosina Baker Lambeth 1d 537
Rosina Rebecca Baker Holborn 1b 764
But more likely this one as all the children were born St Giles in 1891 census
Births Sep 1/4 1878
Rosina Louise Baker St. Giles 1b 638

Amelia Gadd and Michael Stanton were my grandparents. They had four sons - Michael (my dad died October 2016) Frank, Gerald and Peter. Peter is the only one still alive - in Australia.
Michael’s family originated in Ireland. I’d like to know more about them and the Gadd family.

Welcome to rootschat, Rosewai.
This site will show the birth for Amelia, and confirm her mother's maiden name as de Baker (think you first have to register (for free) to search)
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp
What records do you have access to, and have you already got Amelia's birth certificate and her parents' marriage etc?

The marriage referred to previously in Southampton is this one:
Marriages September quarter 1903
Rosina de Baker Southampton 2c 65
Alfred Gadd Southampton 2c 65
which is quite interesting as there is a marriage for an Albert Ernest Gadd in 1893 also (in London) so worth seeing if that is the same man and the first wife died?
This might be his death:
Deaths March quarter 1947
Alfred E Gadd age 72 in Southampton 6b 754
This site for probate/will/administration gives his widow as Rosina:
https://probatesearch.service.gov.uk

This looks like Michael's death:
Deaths September quarter 1970
Michael Stanton born 29th February 1900 in Southampton (6b 1717)
but a free search of the 1939 register has his birth year as 1899.

Thanks - yes that looks like them. I didn’t know the de Baker part of the family so will look into that. Also will try to find more info on Alfred Gadd.

Regarding that 1893 marriage - think that is for an Alfred Ernest Gadd born about 1864 in Derby, a bank manager, who then lives in London, so you can ignore it.

Southampton street directories are online

You will be able to see where the family were living over the years. You can then look at Google streetview to see the houses (unless they've been pulled down!).
