Hello
I am trying to discover the parents of Fanny Tryphena Yearsley b approx 1835 Gloucestershire and Sarah Ann Yearsley b approx 1832 Gloucestershire. They are living with someone who I think is their aunt, definitely not their mother, at Moors Farm in Cheltenham in the 1841 census. Can anyone shed light on these two?
Thanks
Greygirl

If you dont know the parents how can you know that Tryphena Yearsley on 41 census isnt their mother.Ages were often rounded down on 41 census.
-
Looks like Fanny Tryphena married in 1856 St George Hanover Square.
Gustavus Charles Philip Murray was her spouse
-
1871 census
has her at Green Street,St George Hanover Square and her sister Sarah Ann Yearsley is living with them
RG10 95/72/15
If you bought the marriage certificate it would give her fathers name and occupation

Hi
Re: how do I know that Tryphena Yearsley isn't their mother? Without going into a great long explanation, I know Tryphena's history and she wasn't their mother.
I have tracked Fanny Tryphena who married Gustavus Charles Philip Murray, a physician in subsequent censuses and know what became of her. It was really the parent's names I was looking for. You are quite right, if I bought the marriage certificate the parents names should be on it.
Thank you for your help

Perhaps Sue would be kind enough to see if there is a baptism for John Yearsley 1809 and Tryphena Yearsley 1820 Cheltenham that would give the positive link to the girls in 1841 census to their aunt.
-
Thank you both!
I was just about to ask Sue if she could look up Tryphena and John. Can you do that Sue?

Theres a John Yearsley baptism on familysearch
10 Sep 1806 Cheltenham parents Mosses Yearsley and Jane, but cant see a Tryphena.

Found something interesting while searching for Sarah Ann.
In 1891 she is living with Fanny Tryphena's son Arnauld John Henry Murray, retired army officer, and amongst visitors staying with the family is one Mohandas K Ghandi, barrister.
Fancy that!

strange that as there seem to be solicitors and possible doctors in Yearsley family. There is a Stephen Yearsley in Cheltenham on High Street 1851 same possible parents as John found on familysearch, looks like your Yearsley were professional people.
-
My records are a bit patchy the further back I go so no luck with John, this looks good for Tryphena though:-
Tryphena Yearsley
Daughter of Moses & Jane of Cheltenham
17th March 1819 at St Mary`s, Cheltenham
Fathers Occupation - Innkeeper
I had a trawl through the Old Gloucestershire Pubs site and found that a Moses Yearsley was at the Eight Bells, High Street, Cheltenham in 1811, and at Yearsleys Hotel, 156 High Street, Cheltenham in 1830.

Greygirl, sorry to interrupt, but I had to comment on your wonderful find in the 1891 census. I hope they fed him better than his landlady did.

Hi Osprey
I was pretty chuffed about this. It's not really a family connection but quite a surprise nonetheless

Thank you Sue for finding that baptism. It appears that Tryphena was the girls' aunt - her brother John was their father.
That branch of Yearsleys included several innkeepers/hoteliers. Some of them moved to Dorset and set up hotels in Dorchester
