I looked at that one too, but if you cross-reference it on West Midlands BMD, it has James' wife as Ann RODEN, the other woman on the page. :(

I saw that marriage too, but checked West Mid BMD, James Lowe to Mary Roden

I couldn't find anything else close - looked 1851 to 1881!
Mary Ann's sister Naomi is with parents and the rest of the family in 1871 in Altofts.
But no Mary!

This could be your James in 1861 in Donnington Wood, Shropshire - his marriage certificate would confirm his father. As he was older than his wife he possibly knocked a couple of years off his age. Many of my ancestors give Lilleshall as place of birth in early census then Donnington in later census.

Hi Maddie,
I am also researching the Lowes from Lileshall, James Lowe (1800) is my 4x great grandfather (his daughter Jane being my ancestor)
I've discovered a few of James and Jane's 'children' on later census records are actually grandchildren, although recorded as son etc, and some BMD records have been a bit hit and miss/hard to find with the children.
i.e William B Lowe (1864) is actually Jane's son, George (1858) is also Dinah's son.
Isaac and John are also likely not theres given the years of there birth, but I haven't been able to figure that puzzle out yet!
Bek :D

Hi Lowe Reseachers :- I am David George Lowe 1954,my Father was George Lowe 1920/1965 My Grandfather James GG,George 1857, GGG ? Mother Dinah 1836 {but she wed James Ferriday} GGGG James Lowe 1800 Lilleshall.GGGGG Thomas Lowe Born ? place ? Wed Elizabeth ? born ? place ? children Elizabeth 1795 Thomas 1797 JAMES 1800 Joseph 1805 Richard 1808,I have hit a brick wall re GGGGG Thomas & Elizabeth. re my Great Grandfather George,in 1881 he was listed with parents James/Jane but also living there was William 16,Issac 14 & John 11 & as James was 81 & Jane 71 they are one or more of the daughters sons,as with Dinah/George.so if any one can help with Thomas/Elizabeth & possibly further I would be grateful.
-
Hi David,
The only information i have on Thomas and Elizabeth is a marriage from Shropshire parish records for the 29 december 1794. Witnesses were George Dean and 'Nathl' Porter.
There is a possible census record for Thomas in Lilleshall, 1841, born 1772, Shropshire also. Occupation listed as Carpenter.
Im currently trying to find further info on this line of my tree, if i find anything further i will be sure to post!
Out of curiosity also, have you ever heard of any gypsy connections to any part of this line of the family?
My Nan always said we had Gypsy ancestors somewhere on her side and im trying to narrow down which part of the family it may have came from - though have found little evidence so far, so it may just be one of those family myths! Thought it wouldn't hurt to ask though, as you're the first person I've come across with a connection to this part of my family tree :)
-
Opps, i also should add re marriage: Thomas Lowe married Elizabeth Stones.
-
Possible baptism for Eliz Stones

There are multiple siblings for this Elizabeth also

James Lowe born 1800 cencus returns are throwing up several mystery's,as previously stated George 1857{my gr8 grandfather was Jame's daughter Dinah 1836 son, also William Bennett Lowe 1864 is most likely Jame's daughter Jane 1842 son, Dinah wed James Ferriday 1835 they had 4 sons John 1860.James 1862,Thomas 1868, & Jonah 1877 also 4 daughters Mary Ann 1865,Maria 1871,Dinah 1874 & Zilla 1877. William Bennett Lowe was still living with James in 1881 but Jane is not listed on cencus return, there is also listed as previously stated listed on the same cencus Isaac Lowe 1867 & John Lowe 1870,it could be possibility that Ann Lowe 1850 could be there Mother ? who is also listed on the form.
-
Correction, Just had a look at Family search Ann Lowe is William Lowe's wife parents of John Frederick Lowe 1870, Ann & Son John are listed on the 1881 cencus living with James, but William is not listed. no parents listed for Isaac 1867 but Ann & William are most likely his parents, confusing or what I have been sent down that many blind alleys I spent a year following a different Lowe family line because James & not Dinah was listed as the parent.
-
You are correct with William Henry (Bennett) Lowe. He is James' daughter, Jane's son. Who is my x4 great grandmother. William was the child of Jane Lowe and George Bennett. He was born out of wedlock in 1864, Jane was George's servant in the 1881 census, and then they were listed as married in the 1891. (Though I haven't found a marriage record) They also had daughter Rosina born 1882 who is my Great Great Grandmother.
