1. Mary Gertrude WELSH b~1893
2. Amy Margaret (Madge) WELSH b~ 1895
3. Vera May WELSH b~1896
there was also a brother Michael Gerald WALSH b~1906
thanks
Lou :)

I have found a marriage for only the brother and no details at all for the girls. They just seemed to disappear!
I will PM the marriage as Michael's wife might still be alive.
Sandra

thanks Sandra (and for the PM)
the only trace I have of them so far is the death notice for their mother in Nov 1932
when I get to the library I will have a look at that tree
cheers

Hi Lou,
I saw the probate notice for Catherine but didn't see the actual death notice. Does it name all 4 children, or give an indication if Catherine was already widowed. Sometimes they state the location of the children.

Launceston Examiner 15 Nov 1932
WALSH on the 14th of November at her residence Haig St Mowbray, Catherine dearly beloved wife of Michael Walsh, and loving mother of Mary, Madge, Vera and Gerald; in her 68th year.
very sparse unfortuately - no surnames (could they all be unmarried??) no locations
her husband Michael died in 1945

Marriage:
WALSH Amy May m. COOPER James Arnold 28/10/1929 WYNYARD #1637
-
Madge WALSH married John H DOBSON in Perth in 1934.
Amy DOBSON died Perth 1934. Not necessarily the same girl but using both her names is a bit too much of a coincidence. Trove shows this to be an elderly woman.
John H would be John Herbert DOBSON as these 2 were found on electoral rolls. Madge is shown up to 1972 in Kalgoorlie but I don't have access to deaths in WA for that time to see if her parents were named.
*** Found her death in 1974, wrong woman.
-
your thoughts appreciated Merlin and Sandra
I think I have located headstone references on the eHeritage link
both Wynyard General Lawn Cemetery
James Arnold COOPER born 1910 died 1991 (this tallies with a newspaper article from 1952 in which he is described as age 42 from Trowutta)
and
Amy May COOPER b 1909 died 1994
she may have been untruthful re her age if it is the Amy I'm looking for as, if born 1895, she would have been 15 years older than her husband
hmmm...
-
Found Amy May WASLH's birth for 1909 listed as WELSH... so not your family :(

Possible marriage in VIC:
WELSH Vera May m. BALDWIN Chas Ronald Edwd 1936 #15592
Vera May and Charles Ronald E BALDWIN both still alive in the 1980 electoral roll for Preston East (Victoria).
Vera May BALDWIN died 29 Dec 1988 buried or cremated 3 Jan 1989 at Fawkner. Charles is not there. Still no proof though that that is the correct woman.
-
thanks for the PM Johngirl, that confirms what I found on electoral roll (and also by Sandra)
further to that, I found a Mary WELSH on the ER
1914 Herbert St Launceston North (seems to be alone; parents Michael and Katherine at 1 Thompson St Inveresk)
1919 a/a
1928 Michael, Catherine Welsh, Haig St Mowbray
1936 Michael, Michael Gerald Walsh Haig St Mowbray
1943 Mary Welsh, 95 George St (alone)
still no sign of Amy(Madge) or Vera
-
Just took another look and Vera May BALDWIN was aged 73 at death so can't be the correct woman.
-
another one to cross off the list then! :)

must have been half asleep last night....
Johngirl, I will write to the widow of MG Walsh, and ask her if she has any info re: his sisters, or maternal grandmother Julia O'Loughlin nee HILL (she's the one i'm really interested in), I'm guessing it is one of his children that has that tree on A* ??
thanks all, will let you know if anything comes of further inquiries :)
-

Julia O'LOUGHLIN died 8 Oct 1911 at Inveresk at the home of Michael and Catherine WELSH per Trove.
According to Tas Archives she and Martin O'Loughlin/O'Laughlan/O'Loughlan had children:
Mary 1 Jul 1862 Launceston
Catherine 7 Dec 1863 Launceston (wife of Michael WELSH)
John 30 Oct 1865
Martin 24 Dec 1867
Patrick 6 Sep 1870
Julia and Martin married 8 April 1861 at Launceston. #229 Maybe purchasing the marriage certificate might give a bit more information about her background?

thanks, I have most of that; will look at those links Merlin
I have seen the marriage on the AJCP microfilms, not much help I'm afraid, witnesses John HOGAN and Sarah HILL
I have another thread on the 'missing' Sarah
and also another about Mary, Julia and Anne HILL on the County Clare board
Mary arrived in 1854, then sponsored her sisters Julia and Anne
edit to add - I did purchase Julia O'Loughlin's 1911 death cert - states "born Ireland", no parents listed,
can't recall the informant, and I must have put it a very safe place and can't find it just at the minute :(

Hello, I just came across your post while doing searches on random names associated with my family tree.
What is your connection with Michael Welsh and Kathleen O'Loughlin please? Is this Michael one of the sons of Michael and Ann Welsh (I think I have somewhere that she was also O'Loughlin), who farmed in the Karoola/Underwood area of NE Tasmania around the mid 1800s? The other son was James.
My ancestors settled in the same area and were somehow related but I've struggled so far to find the link. I've discovered some interesting information on the two brothers from the late 1800s, am happy to share if you are interested.
Regards.

Hi JW
Catherine/Kathleen O'Loughlin was the cousin of my great-grandfather; his sister was a witness at Catherine's marriage to Michael Welsh in 1892
I haven't discovered who his parents were; but they did live in the Karoola area
as per the other thread, there is also a connection between the Bolands and O'Loughlin's - I'll have to dig out my notes and I'll elt you know
cheers!
Louisa
