I have just inherited this Victoria's Diamond Jubilee medal. 38 m.m. diam.
How is that for a chronological coincidence?
A search via Google shows a multitude of Victoria's Diamond Jubilee medals, but I could not see one like this.
Can somebody identify who issued it please.
Bob.

Hi Bob,
Sorry I can't help with identification.
But I'm inclined to think it wasn't struck as a medal, the hole for the ribon looks like a later addition.
If it was struck to be held on a ribon or chain, the hole wouldn't have been through the middle of the lettering, it would have been designed so that the hole was part of the design.
Hope you find someone who can be of more help.
Leonie.

I initially thought the same as Leonie - that it was some kind of token or coin rather than a medallion - but a quick Google shows several other examples, all pierced. Haven't yet got info about a maker though.
Here's one such example:

My interest is - by whom and to whom was this medallion isued, so that I can link it to the family.
Or was it on sale as a souvenir?

I didn't manage to find that out, Bob. I did see others that were issued by, for example, cities/civic authorities so perhaps there were lots of different ones around at the time, given out to local people, or ones that you could buy as souvenirs. I don't think they were presented, as such. Just my guess.

I was about to say the same thing.
Just like now, every royal event has souvenirs for sale. I collect them myself. ::) ;D
