Hi, bit stuck, any help appreciated. William Mills and his wife Jane were born in Ireland. Here's what i have so far..
William Mills

1861 census age 39 Agricultural Labourer Cadder. birthplace Ireland
1871 census age 42 Labourer at brickfield Cadder. birthplace Ireland
1881 death age 51 Cumbernauld.
Jane Irvine
father - Robert Irvine (General Labourer)
1861 census age 38 birthplace Ireland
1871 census age 42 birthplace Ireland
1902 death age 73 Cumbernauld.
12 Children all born in Lanarkshire, Scotland..
Elizabeth c1848, Robert c1851, Thomas c1853,
Letitia 1857, William 1859, Jean 1861,
Richard 1861, Samuel 1863, Francis 1864,
James 1864, John 1867, Fanny Jane 1868.
Jane may also have had the surname Anderson.
Would like to know when and where in Ireland William and Jane were born.
Think William born sometime around 1823 to 1829 and Jane circa 1829 ?
Also would like to find out more on their parents if possible.

Might help to get information on their marriage- if it took place in Ireland you'll have a more exact location than just 'Ireland' as in the census records. One of the children's birth certificate should list date and place of parents' marriage. However, it's possible it took place before registration began in Ireland and even with a place there might not be surviving church records.
Have a look at Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html) and My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html).

Thank you for the reply and the suggestions.
William's BC doesn't say
Samuel's BC gives parents marriage as 1 January 1827 Glasgow
Fanny's BC gives parents marriage as 1 June 1847 Glasgow
So they appear to have married in Glasgow and given the children's birth dates i'd say 1847 . I searched the OPR for marriages on SP but i can't find any that match

William Mills and Jane Irvine had a previous son named James born 1855 Ballieston Western District of Old Monkland so his birth record gave me some more info..

As you see from the other topic the record has the place name written as Perigow which we reckon is Pettigow.
William Mills is an Ostler aged 28 born Pettigow, County Fermanagh
Jane Mills maiden name Irvine is 27 years born Inniskillen, County Fermanagh
William states their marriage as 1845 Pettigow
Also the 1855 record has the first James as their 6th child with 3 boys, 1 girl living and 1 boy deceased so i am actually missing two more children !
Elizabeth Mills 1848 –
Robert Mills 1851 –
Thomas Mills 1853 –
James Mills 1855 – 1856
Letitia Mills 1857 –

Around 1860 there are Mills homesteads or leased property in their name in Co Fermanagh. You need to look up each on the original page and note what they had, their townland and their map reference. This applies within the Townland when looking up their map section
use http://www.askaboutireland.com, then find their griffith-valuation section
Lurganboy townland in the civil parish of Drumkeeran
Darling St.,Enniskillen townland in the civil parish of Enniskillen
Ballagh townland in the civil parish of Galloon
Cloghagaddy townland in the civil parish of Galloon
Ardees Upper townland in the civil parish of Inishmacsaint
Brook St.,Enniskillen townland in the civil parish of Rossorry
Aghnablaney townland in the civil parish of Templecarn
Derrin townland in the civil parish of Templecarn
Tullyvocady townland in the civil parish of Templecarn
It’s the last two that are in the Pettigo area
Templecarn is a crossborder parish with Co Donegal

Good luck JimG

Statutory marriage registration, for non RC marriages, started in Ireland on 1st April 1845. I searched for a marriage between Wm Mills & Jane Irvine. There’s none listed. So assuming there really was a marriage there, and it wasn’t RC, then it must have been in the first 3 months of the year. To check that you would need to know the denomination that the ceremony took place.
Pettigoe straddles the border between Donegal & Fermanagh (with most of it in Donegal). It’s in two parishes. You would really need to check the records for Templecarn & Drumkeeran. They may not be on-line, but there will be copies of what exists in PRONI, Belfast.

Pettigo is the portion of the village on the Co. Donegal side whilst the portion in Co. Fermanagh is Tullyhommon so that's another place-name to keep in mind when searching.

Thank you for the replies. There seem to be quite a lot of Mills in the area, i imagine i could be related somehow, although it's hard to nail down a definitive connection.
On the http://www.fermanagh-gold.com (http://www.fermanagh-gold.com) website i found a marriage at Pettigo Presbyterian Church 28 May 1851 between James Toote? 22 Labourer Rossharbour and Ellen Mills 18 Rossharbour whose father is a Robert Mills Shoemaker.
So that would make Ellen Mills born about 1833. Seems probable she is a younger sister of William Mills (c1827) ?
