Title: Susannah McDowell Clarke
Post by: Del 80 on Monday 02 April 12 17:46 BST (UK)
Hello, I wonder  if anyone could please find a possible marriage, and a death, for Susannah McDowell Clarke, according to S.P. she was born at Ardrossan in 1921, she is not to be confused with the Susannah McDowell Clarke, who married Robert Sanders at Ardrossan in 1912, allthough I strongly suspect the two are related, any help appreciated, Regards Del.

Del, see you haven't had a reply yet on this one.

Have you discounted the death showing on SP in Lanarkshire for a Susannah Clark (no e at the end)? The entry shows in 1958, birth year 1912. I haven't viewed it on the results screen, just a general search. You may find that there is an additional surname (as always two surnames mean either could me maiden and married surnames).

Monica  :)

Monica, I hadn't seen that one thanks, I thought I had found her in Canada, but not so sure now, a Susan McDowell Clarke married R.F.Bollen in India in 1944, he was Canadian, she was born Ardrossan in 1921, she died 2011 in Canada, just trying to find out who her parents were, thanks for your reply ,Regards Del.

www.threetowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10533 - Awesome Sweet Caroline!

Two options here Del...someone could look this birth cert up at one of the main registry offices next time they are in doing their own research or maybe something on the obitiuary in Canada  - can only see a pay to view option on this so far:

Monica, have seen that obituary report, and wonder if it is her, also on-line is a profile for a Ron Bollen, it says that he was a Canadian airman, and that he was posted to Belfast in 1943, it also says that he met his future wife, Susan, on board a ship, the SS Argentina, and that she was in the WRNS., it goes on to say that after the war, he was quite well up in the oil industry, and that was because he had "taken the lead of his wife's parents",  there is also a tree on ancestry for a Ron Bollen, but it gives no information on his wife's parents. Regards Del.

I think from the huge amount of info/searches put together by 'Sweet Caroline' on the other board, if you, I would be fairly confident you are on the right trail. Just the question marks you have really on the origins of this Susannah born 1921....

Monica, There is a Susannah McDowell Clarke on S.P. that is how I discovered her, unfortunately there is no image for her, I think perhaps that I will have to send for it, to find out who her parents were, I'm pretty sure that they are Samuel Allan Clarke and Jessie Boyce, but can't prove it.......yet. Regards Del.

Vikiroland, Hello,  We know that Susan McDowell Clarke married Ronald Bollen, and that they lived in New Zealand, before returning to his native Canada.....we also know that they have now both sadly passed away......we are trying to find information about Susan's grandfather Samuel Clarke.....he was my wife's greatgrandfather, he seems to have ''vanished'' in the early 1900's in Ireland.....if you have any information it would be most appreciated......Regards Del.

Thank you for the reply, we have been looking for information on Samuel Clarke for about four years now, we know that he married Susannah McDowell in Ireland, and that they parted company in 1899 after a very nasty incident, for which Samuel went to jail, Susannah, we believe fled to Scotland, with son Samuel Allan Clarke.....second son Hugh Joseph Clarke was born there in 1900.....we look forward to hearing from you, as any information is most appreciated.......Regards Del.

Hello Vicki. My wife is the daughter of Joseph Hugh Clarke (1918--1975).....he was the son of Hugh Joseph Clarke (1900--1972)......he was the second son of Samuel Clarke (1865--??) and Susanna McDowell (1876--1928).......we believe that their first son was Samuel Allan Clarke (1897--1978) HIS daughter was Susan McDowell Clarke........hope this makes sense, we believe our information to be correct, although some of it is unconfirmed, and there may be mistakes.......... Regards Del.

Still no news on the elusive Samuel Clarke, so posting this to keep the thread ''alive''......someone out there must know what happened to him.....there are now three, possibly four of us looking for him.....of course there may be others searching for information on him, if anyone has anything on him, no matter how unimportant it may seem, please get in touch, we just need that one lucky break to allow us to fill in some gaps on the family tree.........Regards Del.
