Can anyone help,I am trying to trace what happened to Harry and Florence Farrant who emigrated to Canada in 1950 from somerset England aged 77 and 60's? I don't know where they settled or when they died? Where do I start? Thank you to anyone who maybe able to help

Thank you, that's really helpful. Do you know if there are any children to that marriage? Although they married very late in life I think there may have been children born in the 1920/30's? How can I find out more info?

Have you checked UK BMD records for any births ? Do you have the maiden name of Florence ? (OK - can see the maiden name on the death record)

Added Married in December 1946 - Weston 7C 772 (Unlikely to be any children from this marriage bearing in mind the ages)

I think that they had been together a long time before they married and from what the family can remember they think there were children from the relationship and we kind of assumed that they may have followed family to Canada (seems quite old to emigrate otherwise?) Look up at the library would be brilliant thank you....just trying to get to grips with family trees in Uk, let alone Canada! I couldn't understand why I couldn't find his death in UK! :D

Not finding any births for Farrant and Jarrett - could either of them have brothers or sisters who had immigrated to Canada ? Or have you accounted for everyone ?

No problem - I will also look up the death registrations. They will state who provided the information. The obituaries/death notices should also provide names of any children.

I'm not sure if you're still searching but I'm hoping this message reaches you!
I'm also struggling with the Harry Farrant mystery and wondered if you'd managed to find any more information?
I've found three children and two wives - Emilie & Florence but there is also a mention of an Ellen on one of the passenger lists. Very confusing!
I found his son, grandchildren & great grandchild in Vancouver. I suspect after all this time you already know all of this.

There was a death for Harry Farrant (aged 94 years) - this is the death certificate if you hadn't seen it before. - 18 April 1873 - 18 March 1968 Vancouver British Columbia.
Wife Florence Ellen Jarrett.

Harry had been a police officer. Informant was a son Bertram Farrant. Burial Ocean View Cemetery Burnaby.
Son listed in Canada Phone directories up until 2002 - at the address on the certificate.

Thank you SO much for all the information! I didn't expect any replies so for you to reply so quickly is brilliant and the information, particularly the links to the death certificates, is much appreciated.
Your posts have filled in quite a few gaps and explains the 'Ellen' Farrant I'd found on one of the passenger lists - clearly Florence Ellen! It would seem Bertram & Brenda are his children with Florence Ellen Jarrett and Geoffrey C J his son with his first wife Emilie Fry.

Ignore my assumptions regarding the children - I've just re-read your posts, one of which states Bertram is listed with Harry & Emilie on one of the passenger lists.

When I looked several years ago I did find Harry's obituary, printed in the Vancouver Sun on 19 Mar 1968. It states that he is survived by wife Florence, son Bertram, daughter Brenda and four grandchildren. It also gives Brenda's married name and states that she was living in Calgary at the time.
I did find this Alberta obit from 2016 which may be Brenda. - the names and her birthdate match Harry's obit and other information in this thread, as do some of the other details.

Wonderful articles - 25 August 1927 shows a photograph of Chief Harry Farrant and a great report detailing his work as a Police Officer for the London Police Force. ;)
