There is much in Trove regarding Mr Jacob Myers of Yass. This has him as propietor of the Blue Mountains Inn, in 1851.

This will be your Jacob's marriage. Jacob was granted land in Liverpool and the code CF represents St Luke Church at Liverpool.

How hard is it to click on a link to find out? ???
If you look at the links. The first says it's about the 'convic't and the second cleary says 'pardon'.
Me saying that you should see the links was simply to save you looking for things already found.

Sorry I repeated something you had in your 'links', no not hard to click on a link, also not hard to give some idea of what is on that link either. By the time I wait for a trove page to load and then try to find the relevant part on that page I could have found something else. We don't all have lightening fast internet speeds or unlimited downloads. LOL
I will but out and leave you to it. :-X

Shows you didn't even bother to look at the links. All my Trove links say what they are about. The other two, are just NSW State records, which don't require a fast Internet connection to open.
Feel free to duplicate as you wish, it matters not to me. Also, I think that snide comments are best sent by PM, if you must send them at all, rather than posted within other's listings.

375/1858 Jacob Myers to Caroline J Dunlop at Sydney
The newspaper item-
http://trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/13011428?searchTerm="jacob myers"&searchLimits=l-category=Family+Notices
Shows her name to be Mrs. Caroline Jane Dunlop,
With this in mind there are births to be seen to her and JACOB MYER from the year of their marriage and I also saw deaths (of those whose surname was not changed by marriage) recorded also.

A lot of interesting info in here about my great great great grandfather, Jacob Myers. I have been researching and know that he was transported to Oz in 1826 for Highway Robbery. The ship's manifest lists him as 16 years old, making his year of birth 1809 or 1810. We know he was pardoned around 1845 and subsequently owned a number of hotels in Sydney, the Blue Mountains, etc, shops, land - Yass, Gundagai, etc. He appears to have died in 1880, but many of the death notices, etc list him as in his 90th year, meaning he was born around 1790. This obviously conflicts with the age he was listed as when he was convicted and transported. Many people I have found accept he was born in 1790 and have then linked him with certain people as his parents. This does not appear correct.
The problem I have is that I have not been able to find his date of birth as birth records prior to 1825 in England were held in parish records, and I have no idea which parish to search. So my search has come to a dead halt.
I do have a theory that the Jacob Myers born in 1790 might have been his father - have no reason for this, other than it opens doors to further investigation!!
If anyone has anything to add that might clarify his actual birth date, or any other info of interest I would love to hear from you.

Hi Lozza14
What information is listed on the death certificate for the man in 1880?
Who was the informant?

I may be repeating information already given, but I think the following is a good indication of why I would be concerned about determining the chap of the Marquis of Huntley in 1826 and the chap who died in 1880 would be same person without first sourcing some NSW bdm certificates ... of course, I would aim for official transcriptions ... The clue I would be seeking is for a place of birth for the Jacob, father of Abraham Myers.

Now.
Here is an Obituary for a man named Solomon MEYER. 1902
It mentions the deceased was a BROTHER of Abraham MEYER, the storekeeper of Queanbeyan.
Also that Abraham and (from what I can understand), all his family drowned in the wreck of the Dunbar in around 1857.

Two of Jacob's sons Alexander & Abraham were Aerated Waters and Cordial
Manufacturers, (several Trove advertisements) in Queanbeyan and Cooma.
Abraham moved to Western Australia taking two of Jacob's sons with him, where they established another Cordial Manufacturing business.

The Yass Courier (NSW : 1857 - 1929) Tue 28 Feb 1882
describes Alexander as a native of Yass.
An early responder to this post, claiming descent of Jacob, suggested pre 1925 English records needed to be referred to parish. Hopefully she is now aware that from the September quarter of 1837 is when civil registration was introduced but it was not fully mandatory for some time, and parish records are not ever (or only rarely) going to be a source for Jewish/Judaism/Hebrew records.
Australian Jews married out of the faith/race moreso, due to lack of available people *of* the faith /race, but Jews living in England (mostly in London, and usually emigrants from Europe) rarely did. Even during civil registration mandatory times, many failed to register their children's births.
Like *all* family history, understanding the places and times becomes imperative. DNA testing opens doors previously closed.
Anyhoo... I'm in the middle of a project in regards to a one-name study on Abraham MYERS of Australia. There's a lot of them about. I've only just started working on this particular link, but wondering if anyone has actually pursued the death registration of Jacob, and/or what DNA results may have come about by descendants (of any MYERS in Australia).
Or just looking for updates, and adding my twopence worth.

Hi Jools . It is all so difficult! I am the 3xGreat grandson of Jacob Myers born 1809-1810 in Middlesex(?). Can’t find any birth records for him so can’t confirm his parents. Sentenced to death in 1825 for Highway robbery but commuted to Life imprisonment. Transported to Australia in 1826 on the Marquis of Huntley. Eventually pardoned in 1845 and became a successful businessman and publican. Had 3 x marriages - Caroline Thomas (m. 1835 - no children) ; Ann Clegg (m. 1837 - children Henry 1839; Sarah 1841; Leah - Lucy Ann 1857; Alexander ?); and Caroline Dunlop or Solomon (m. 1858 - children George 1859; Emily 1860; Alfred 1861; Edwin 1862; Anna 1866). Jacob died at Waterloo, Sydney on 05.06.1880.
That’s a brief bit of info from me. Am interested to know what your connection is to my forebears - what branches of the family tree are you playing in ! Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Laurie Myers
