Title: Asbridge / Ashbridge's of Caldbeck
Post by: liamasbridge on Saturday 07 April 12 16:17 BST (UK)
Hello,

I'm trying to find anyone who has a link to the Asbridge's of Caldbeck. I have traced my family to Adam Asbridge b. abt 1699. I would love to hear from anyone who has gone further back or has any more information about this side of the family including parish records.

Thanks.

Hi,

I have an Asbridge line from Caldbeck in my tree.

My direct ancestors:

Timothy Ellwood married Elizabeth Asbridge 1803 Caldbeck (family search).

Three sons were born: John b1807, Thomas b1804 & Robert b1810 all in Caldbeck but the parents are Timothy Ellwood and Margaret Asbridge!!

Elizabeth could be born 1776 Caldbeck dau of William & Elizabeth Longmire, William son of Adam.

This family has been a mystery to me for some time now!!!

I have an Asbridge will namimg an Ellwood. I am not at home right now so am writing from memory. I will have a look at my notes and see what I can find once back home in a couple of weeks.

Regards,

Gillian

Hello Gillian,

Thanks for your reply. I have all those people in my tree that you mentioned and the dates match up as well. William Asbridge and Elizabeth Longmire are my 6x great grandparents. The parent's of William Asbridge are Adam Asbridge and Sarah Pierson. This is the furthest I have been able to go. I would love to hear anything else you have once you have looked over your notes.

Regards,

Liam.

Hi Liam,

What are your Asbridge connections down from William and Elizabeth?

Do you have any info re Elizabeth/Margaret Ashbridge?

Down from William and Elizabeth I have another William Asbridge who is my 5x great grandfather but I also have Elizabeth Asbridge as his sister who married Timothy Elwood (as you mentioned). The details for those two that I have are as follows:

Elizabeth Asbridge: born - 6 July 1776 at Fellside, Calbeck, Cumberland, Married to Timothy Elwood - 30 July 1803 at St Kentigern's Church, Caldbeck, Cumberland, died - 1805 at Hesket Newmarket, Caldbeck, Cumberland.

Timothy Elwood: born - 17 June 1776 at Greenrigg, Caldbeck, Cumberland, Married (as above), died - 13 March 1854 at Hesket Newmarket, Caldbeck, Cumberland, burial - 21 June 1854 at Parish Church, Caldbeck, Cumberland.

Hi Liam,

You have Elizabeth's death in 1805, what is your source?

Timothy's chldren were born after her death. Maybe Timothy married twice, a second time to Margaret??

Appologies, I did originally get that from someone who had been to Caldbeck and looked through the parish records however looking around online I have found a few people who have the date 01 MAR 1852 for her death.

It would make more sense for this to be true. I have also looked at records in ancestry and there is a record for Elizabeth Elwood who died in 1852.

Hi Liam,

Yes I have the 1852 date. I'll have to see what census info I have (1841 & 1851). The 1805 date could be correct. I often wondered if Timothy married twice.

The mysterious jazzygg is me!!

It still doesn't solve the Elizabeth/Margaret mystery though!

Hi Liam,

Have managed to find some info from googling old posts!!

I have a will of John Ashbridge d1826 Caldbeck which makes reference to his nephew Thomas Ellwood and a son William Ashbridge (a minor).

That must mean that John Ashbridge is Elizabeth's brother but I don't seem to have a John on that side of the family. My only thought can be is that he died before the 1841 census and therefore has been missed off. Would you be able to post the will up here or email it to me. Do you have any more details on him?

Hi Liam,

Am back home now and have found John Ashbridge's will dated 1826.

John has  brothers Thomas and Robert, nephew Thomas Ellwood, son William under 21 years old, a friend George Bewley and also mentions George Cashier, Sarah Hinlenson and Betty or Elizabeth Peel .

Witneses were: Richard Harrison & John Peel.

The will was proved 20th April 1826.

According to my notes, John Ashbridge was the brother of Margaret Ashbridge.

I have a tree somewhere from another Ashbridge researcher giving the relationships. I'll send the details once I have found it!!

Send me your email address by personal message and I'll send you my Ashbridge tree.

Regards,

Gillian

I'm afraid I don't have a grace Asbridge in my tree but if I come across he then I will get back to you. Maybe someone else here will know more.
