Hi,
George Glover b. 1863 who was married to a Mary Grace Glover b. 1864 (nee Pearce) shows up in 1891 census location Bideford but there appears to be no other references to this family after this date. Mary has history in the area from birth. Children Arthur, Charles, Ernest. Any ideas please?

Full 1891 details as birthyears/birthplaces needed for later search
Children all b Bideford
George Glover 28 carpenter b Littleham
Mary Grace 27 b Parkham
Arthur George 4
Charles 2
Ernest 11 mths
Elizabeth Pearce 18 visitor b Parkham
I can't see any of them in 1901 and there are no likely matches for deaths between 1891-1901
Nothing on the free 1911 index
Emigration perhaps??

Probably a wild-goose chase, but . . . .
1901 and 1911 censuses have a George Glover Violet, born 1863, Littleham?

I have Glover family from Parkham, Northam and some went to Teignmouth. Elizabeth Glover Howard has done a tremendous amount of research here:

ps I'll have a look too for you, but as said emigration could be an option as I know that quite a few Glover's went to Canada

Hi,
Thank you for your kind responses. The background to the Glovers was very fascinating.
I presume emigration is a reasonable option as there appear to be no death records.
The Pearce family was my main research and I managed to find Mary Pearce and the fact that she had married a George Glover through her visitor Elizabeth. I will try Canada first.
Regards,
Robert

The 1901 entry found by KGarrad above is the correct family - surname is Violet on the image but first 3 children are a match for those in 1891 and they also have Elizabeth Pearce mother in law with them

John VIOLET married Ann GLOVER Dec qtr 1863, Bideford district. In 1871 she is shown widowed with sons George 8 and Charles 6. RG10 piece 2202 folio 17 page 8
However, birth registrations show 2 George GLOVERs registered in March & June qtr 1863, so it looks as though he was born before the marriage and may or may not be the son of John VIOLET. In 1861 an unmarried Ann GLOVER had 2 other illegitimate sons living with her. http://freecen.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

Hi,
The good news is that I probably do not have to carry on searching the oversees sites, however, it looks like there seems to be some sort of name change going on that will need some careful understanding and unravelling. The key is Elizabeth Pearce who probably confirms the link.
Many thanks for the prompt replies saving me a lot of time.

Hi,
A quick update.
I did have to trace overseas for the eldest son Aurthur George who enlisted in the Canadian overseas expeditionary force and eventually ended up getting married in Ohio and dying in California. The marriage record confirmed his name as Violet and his parents as George Violet and mother Grace Pearce. He married Evelyn Van Deusen. Nearly there!

Hi there. Have just come across this post whilst doing some research for my son's WW1 project (yes me, not him!) and am absolutely fascinated by the contents.
My mother was George Violet's granddaughter - her father Sydney (born c.1895) was the youngest of 4 brothers - Arthur, Charles & Ernest. His company, George Violet & Sons, made farm machinery in Bideford.
Uncle Ernie gave my mother away at her wedding in 1951 as her father Sydney, died in 1945. My parents last visited Aunt Evelyn, Arthur's wife, in California in the 90's?
I am confused by the names of Glover v Violet and how several records refer to both. Does anyone know the history behind this? As suggested on a previous post, there may be some doubt as to whether George was John Violet's son. Can anyone enlighten me? I'm afraid the link suggested by DOB7 doesn't work ...
Thanks in advance. Oh yes, back to the original line of investigation, I know all the brothers fought in WW1 -and amazingly they all made it. However, I believe the family business fell apart when they all got back.
