Hi Gang,
This is a very long shot, but I have been searching for any photographic evidence of Waresley Court (part of Hartlebury - near Kiddermnister) for several years but have had no luck yet - I know the Court was sold to a property developer around 1925 but would love a photo of it as several of my ancestors worked there.
FINGERS CROSSED VERY HARD

Have you tried the Record Office, Libraries? Sorry if you had.
-
Hi There,
Thanks for the sugestion but Ive tried Worcester History Centre but could find nothing on the Court (Ive still got about 7 years or Berrows Worcester Journal to read yet though) - Ive been looking for photgraphic evidence since 1996 & dont think I'm going to be lucky as the Hartlebury Historical Society (The Court was in Hartlebury by the way) have also been unable to find anything.
This is what you call a soding great brick wall

hello,
i too am looking for history information on the same place as you i think. My family and i lived there a few years ago for a while when it was empty. i cannot find anything on it either only that it has been turned into luxury apartments. you can view a picture of it on the property websites. how much information do you have on the manor and your ancestors?
many thanks
Hollie

Hi Hollie
Are we talking about the same Waresley Court part of the village of Hartlebury in Worcestershire - That has never been luxury apartments as it was sold to a property developer around about 1900 & no longer exists - I should know as I spend 3 months of the year [on 3 holidays] at Crossway Green about 1 mile from wher the old Court used to stand.
Good luck with your research into it & I hope you find something out but don't rely on pictures on the internet to find it as there is no photographic evidence of this Waresley Court & the best monument to it is a raod that was named after it "Waresley Court Road" very imaginative don't you think.

Hi
The Victoria History series of books about counties seem to have lots of pictures of the larger properties.
Unforunately the online version doesn't have pictures but you may find one in the library.
If you are not local to Worcestershire most libraries will look for an interlibrary loan for you.
-
Hi Again
Ive already had all the Victorian County History volumes for Worcestershire on inter library loan & fornd nothing about waresley Court, but did find a lot about other parts of the county I'm researching as well as a fair bit about Hartlebury

Hi
Re message below. I wondered where that had gone.
I obviously misplaced it.

Hi
Sorry to appear a bit dense, but what has St Mary's got to do with Waresley Court, Hartlebury, WOR

Hi, I have found this on the following site,
http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.asp?compid=43140
Waresley is a hamlet and ancient manor to the south of the village. Waresley House was for many years in the latter half of the 19th century the residence of Dr. John Peel, D.D., Dean of Worcester. From about 1876 until his death in 1912 the Rev. Benjamin Gibbons lived there. Waresley Court is now occupied by Lord Hampton. Hope it helps
-
Hi Jim
Thanks a lot for going to the trouble of looking this up for me & obviously most things about Hartlebury are of interest to me - however waresley house & waresley court were two totaly diferent places in the same village

I haven't got any of the Worcester Porcelain Stintons i'm afraid.
My worcester Stinton (Maternal GGrandfather) was a John Stinton born 1815 (according to census ages) and variously shown in different census as a Skinner, Fell Monger.
He moved around a fair bit and was in Hereford and then later Bristol, and Cheltenham(death).
I have really struggled to get further back with him, I haven't definitively found a birth record or marriage (Jane Burroughs from Devon according to censuses) record.

Hi There
I thought it was worth asking on behalf of my friend as she has been working on her Stinton line since before record offices were the norm & she used to have to get her info from the churches
Good luck with your researech

Hi Phil
You don’t mention what and where you have searched – probably because the list is so long! Have you read Page 63 of “Hartlebury Worcestershire. The Record of a Parish.” compiled and edited by R O Walker in 1987? Let me know if you haven’t, because it gave me some ideas on where you could try looking at the Worcestershire Record Office (WRO), the Worcester Family History Centre (WFHC) and elsewhere.
You also say that you are working your way through Berrows Worcester Journal. If your patience hasn’t been exhausted, you could look at some of the WFHC microfilms of the local rag, The Kidderminster Shuttle, for the period 1910 to 1926 when the Court was demolished. Once you have pinpointed the date articles began to include photographs, perhaps you’ll get lucky and find one featuring Waresley Court in the background, e.g. any of the Waresley Court Scout Troop which Lord Hampton’s son set up. According to Mr Walker’s book he was a friend of Lord Baden Powell. If you look at Kidderminster and District Scouting website http://kidderminsterscouts.org.uk/history.htm Baden Powell visited Kidderminster in 1911, perhaps he also visited Waresley Court!!

Hi All
Please dont bother with Waresley court any more as I'm droping it from my research as even the Hartlebury History Society have been unable to find anything about it in the record office
Please concider this topic closed - thank you all for your suggestions though

If any of you remember this topic I have since obtained photographic evidence of the existence of Waresley Court & was sent the photographs from the family archives of the mother of the current Lord Hampton a few years ago

Chang the zoom level with the - in the top left corner.

Hi Stan
Thanks for your info but I already have a good image from above of Warseley Court on an old map before it was sold to a developer who demolished the Court & put a very big housing estate in its grounds - mind you if you know what to look for you can still see bits of evidence of the Court, boundary walls, part of the orangery & the foundations of a big water tower that used to supply the court & its stables. Im not a local but did live at Waresley for 3 years when a young man & spend about 18 weeks a year there now so I suppose you could say Im not exactly an outsider ;D
I hope you have a great Christmas & the New Year is very good to you
once again thank you for thinking of me re info on the Court

Hi There
Yes thanks Ive got that on my mobile taken from an original photo that hangs on the wall of the cousins I stay with when I visit Waresley & I can tell you a bit about that picture'
The building on the left hand side was the lodge (demolished long ago) to Waresley house & grounds, the road was widened a hell of a lot & is now part of the A449, the building in the background is an old pub that used to be known as the Crown & was demolished a long time ago to make room for the A449
All the very best
Phil
ps thanks for thinking of me by the way :)

Hi Again
I just noticed that you are researching the Stinton's of WOR & cant help wondering what part of the county your researching for them as Ive done a fair bit of work on the name for a friend of mine & have looked at Cotheridge, Claines & a few parishes of Worcester itself & I still think that you could be linked to James Stinton in some way as he was one of the famous game bird painters at Worcester Royal Porcelain Factory

Hi, I can't seem to work out how to insert an image here from my saved images, but I've added it as an attachment.
The image shows the original lodge for Waresley House. Waresley House was built in 1750 and this lodge looks contemporary to me, particularly with the arched windows mirroring those on the main house. The image you have is, I believe, a later property on the site. Here's another postcard that shows the later property with The Crown more clearly in the background...… https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Waresley-near-Kidderminster-Hartlebury-Stourport-/260470517377
I hope this is still of interest.
Kind regards,
Rachel.

Interesting to read this thread as my great great aunt and family are showing as living at Waresley House Lodge on the 1921 census. Her husband, Albert Heap, was Head Gardener. I have some scans of photos somewhere that are connected with their time in the Hartlebury area, so it's inspired me to look them out and hopefully, they'll be enlightening!
