Title: Mother and child - Edwardian
Post by: Mike in Cumbria on Monday 16 April 12 19:24 BST (UK)
Another mystery photo for your expert consideration please. Again - a date and a reason for the date would be perfect.

At least there's a name on this one, but whether Rita is the daughter or the mother is still to be discovered.

Hi Mike...You have some lovely photos...I would say the name refers to the child...this will bring it back up the board and to the attention of the daters.

Same date as the others for pretty much the same reason, dress & hairstyle. The child has a new fashion trend just emerging pre war.Her dress has a sash just above hip level,by 1915ish this sash travelled south & was right at hip level.

I would say the girl was around 6 years old so maybe you are looking for a Rita born 1899ish.
Really lovely photos and well heeled family 8)

The childs (?) book is interesting .... my children had books with holes for fingers to go through in the 1970's, but I didn't know childrens books pre WW1 had finger holes.

I was interested in the book too. I wonder if they were common in that era.

That's the one I was thinking of !   My kids loved it .... but it was 1970's, not Edwardian !

Do we have any old book experts ?

Hi Mike.......A restored colour version as per our recent discussion.

A beautiful photo I must say and I hope I have done it justice.

Is everyone certain those are holes at the top of the pages? Could it be phases of the moon? Could it be a (child's?)garden/audubon type of book?

I'm not certain they're holes, but I'm pretty sure.  It looks like they're on the last page of the book which has printed circles where they could be seen through the holes if the book were shut.

Apologies for reviving one of my old threads but I may have found out who these people are. I have a potential Marguerite Mary Hulse, born 1907. Given that this photo was dated 1912-1914, could the little girl, Rita, be in the 5- 7 year old age bracket?

I am now in email contact with this little girl's first cousin twice removed!

Nope. I'm hoping that between us we can work out who some of the other mystery people in the collection are.
It's all rather exciting.

Are you psychic or was that a 50/50 lucky guess?
