Thank you. This appears to be the family i am after. I have found the deaths of Ronald,Thomas R, Cecile, and of course Marion all in New Zealand. I will now see if i can find the other names in NZ. Are there any web sites i can go to to find information on the Ogier and Mauger Family's. Cecile looks as if she was French?

Many Many Thanks

Hi Carol

How about:-

Lois Ogier married Lachlan Norman McDonald (1912)
Irene Ogier married Harold Orlando Barker (1916)

both on www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz

I'm not sure on French ancestry at all, but will see what can be found  ;D

No I don't. I have nothing going back. All i had was the name Marion Ogier. I am doing this for a friend who has little information on any of the Family. I am trawling thro NZ BMD now and finding the family that way. I have a total of 13 children for this couple but one died as she has a sister born a year later with the same name.

Seems their full names were Thomas Robin Ogier and Cecile De Jersey Mauger

in 1881 she was lodging with a family called Jones at Hildebrant Roquettes, St Peter Port, Guernsey.  It looks like it was a school (RG11 5625 99 13)

1871 @  Bernoderie (?), St Mary De Castro, Guernsey (RG10 5768 73 18)

John Mauger, Head, 33, Farmer, St Martin Guernsey
Eliza Mauger, Wife, 34, St Andrews Guernsey
Eliza I Mauger, Dau, 11, St Mary De Castro Guernsey
Mary L Mauger, Dau, 10, St Mary De Castro Guernsey
Emilia J Mauger, Dau, 8, St Mary De Castro Guernsey
Cecelia Mauger, Dau, 3, St Mary De Castro Guernsey
Priscilla Mauger, Dau, 1, St Mary De Castro Guernsey

1861 @ same address as 1871 (RG9 4377 4 3)

John (*) Mauger, Head, 23, Farmer of 11 Acres, St Martin
Eliza Mauger, Wife, 23, St Andrews
Eliza I Mauger, Dau, 1, born Catel
Mary L Mauger, Dau, 2m, born Catel
Susanne De Jersey, 67, Independant, born Catel

* as Jean Mauger

Skipped 1851 (as can't find it) but in 1841 this looks like John/Jean at Vaudes, Catel

Nicolas Mauger, 40, Ag. Labourer, born in Channel Islands
Elizabeth Mauger, 40, born in Channel Islands
Nicolas Mauger, 9, born in Channel Islands
Elizabeth Mauger, 7, born in Channel Islands
Jean Mauger, 3, born in Channel Islands

If there was a french connection with the Mauger's it looks like it could be quite a way back

The Family's must go a long way back just makes you wonder why a family would pack up and come to New Zealand

That's true, especially as it looks as though the whole family went.

It looks like Gladys Ogier didn't marry (unless she married a lot older) as she is with her mother in Eden, Auckland on the 1946 Electoral Roll at 6 Mount Pleasant Road.

Claude looks like he is Claude Daniel Ogier.  In 1919 he was working as Groom at Te Kuiti, his mother, father (a gardener) and Gladys were all at Te Kuiti.

Thomas Robin Ogier's family and parents:-

1881 @ Marias, St Sampson, Guernsey (RG11 5629 31 19)

John A Ogier, Head, 51, Farmer of 60 Acres
Julia Ogier, Wife, 45
John A Ogier, Son, 23, Farmer
Thomas R Ogier, Son, 16, Farmer
Daniel F Ogier, Son, 15, Farmer
Julia A Ogier, Dau, 13
Peter J Ogier, Son, 11
Eunice L Ogier, Dau, 8
Edwin H Ogier, Son, 6
Henrietta G Ogier, Dau, 3

All born St Sampson.  There is a Daniel Ogier and family at the same address that could be John's brother

John A Ogier looks like the son of Daniel Ogier and Caroline - both of whom were born Guernsey so again it looks like the Ogier's go way back in the Channel Islands

Hi

Weirdly, I, like carol80, am also looking into this family on behalf of someone else. Specifically, for the grandson of Phyllis Ogier, Marion’s older sister.

It looks like Thomas Robin Ogier, his wife Cecile De Jersey nee Mauger and nine of their ten offspring left for Wellington from London in 1908, leaving Phyllis (then aged 10) behind in Guernsey. She is still in Guernsey in 1911, living with three elderly Naftel sisters at Valdivia, Vale, Guernsey. But in 1922, she sets sail for Australia, aboard the Osterley, bound for Melbourne.
You’d think she was on her own but the next two people on the passenger list are Mr A and Mrs A Domaille. These appear to be the same people Phyllis is visiting, as a 3-year-old, in her second entry in the 1901 census (the first being at home at 1, New Road, with Dad, Mum and seven siblings).

I’d be delighted to hear any information about why the family left and whether there are any living relatives who can recall any information about Thomas Robin, or Cecile, or any of their children.

Thanks!
