I've just been loaned a great little booklet published last year in Australia and called:
"Solving riddles in 19th century photo albums" by Graham Jaunay. - put out by 'Unlock the Past'
It was published last year and gives a short, concise history of photography and how to tell the various methods - plus clear illustrated description for dating card backs, and dot-point descriptions of fashions during the decades!
It only took about 1 1/2 hours to read it all but seem to me like a really handy small book to keep beside you when looking at old family photos! I'm sold and have ordered one for myself!
