Hi Trish
Don't believe he was American, according to his death certificate and the birth certificate of his son Joseph, 16 Sept. 1856 he was born in the West Indies. I've also found a reference to Joseph's twin Benjamin as a school teacher in country N.S.W. describing him as a south sea islander. In another report his daughter Caroline, born 1854 was described as colored.

Hi  Grandhi,
It only says he was of the United States not that he was born there.
What was his age on Joseph Freemans Death Cert?

Trish :)

Hi Trish
According to his death certificate he was 68, died 20 Dec. 1878 so he would have been born in the West Indies about 1810. 26 years in N.S.W. but no information on mother or father.

There was a Caithness Bain (Watten), who invented the electric clock.
