To narrow the search, can you tell me what port/s these ships arrived at?

Thanks, I'll see what I can find.

BTW, I found this image of a ship named 'Oswestry Grange' which might be the one you're interested in.

Thank you Riley. I have heard that the Cornwall may have left from Liverpool but the date is not known.

Hi Mackiwi,

Thanks for the names given in your PM. I found two of them, at least.

Source: Archives NZ-Wellington Office
Agency: SS
Series: 1
Item Reference: 119
Item Description: Auckland Inwards 1907. Microfiche T5367. No. 36: 'Cornwall' arrived 25 November 1907.

Embarked: Liverpool
Name: MCINTYRE Catherine
Age: 61
Profession: Nil
Born: Scotland
Port at which Passenger Intends to Disembark: Wellington.

Embarked: Liverpool
Name: MCINTYRE Mary
Age: 32
Profession: Nil
Born: Scotland
Port at which Passenger Intends to Disembark: Wellington.

I could not find an Angus MCINTYRE on the list, but lthough the writing was small and faded in places, I don't think I missed him. I checked the 'Oswestry Grange' which arrived at Auckland on 15 February 1908, but couldn't find him there either.

The 'Cornwall's captain was W. HOWELL and she carried 149 Scots, 25 English. and 4 Irish passengers.

Hi Riley,
Thank you so much for that, it looks like it could be them. I believe that the Oswestry Grange also arrived in January of 1907. The archives gave me A McIntyre aged 50 but that is almost twice the age of the one I am looking for. My one may have been listed as a mason, as he did an apprenticeship in that field according to the 1991 census. There was also a rumour in the family that he may have been in the police force over there, although I have been unable to find any proof.
Also were you able to tell if they were assisted passengers or did they pay their own way ?

Hi Mackiwi,

I can look for the January 1907 voyage of the 'Oswestry Grange' for you. Am I looking for Angus on this voyage?

The listings did not mention whether passengers were assisted or not, and because the pages are imaged separately, it's hard to tell even what class they were in. I get the impression that passengers at this period paid their own way.

Hi Riley,
Thank you again, and yes please. I don't know if he travelled as Angus or Mr McIntyre.
He would have been 33 at the time but it appears they were not as careful with exact ages back then.

Could I trouble you to check for Mary and Catherine on that arrival as well, as I thought they all travelled out here together.

Hi Riley,

Thanks for that. Looks like it's back to the drawing board.
Any clues as to where I might begin ? I can't imagine a 33year old being able to pass himself off as 50.
Catherine's death in 1910 shows she had been here for 3 years. I know that they were all still on the Isle of Bute in April of 1904.
Looks like I may have been steered in the wrong direction being pointed the those 2 particular ships.
Do you know if any of these records are available to the public in Auckland ?

Cheers Mackiwi
