Title: Find A Grave *COMPLETED*
Post by: Ridgeback on Tuesday 26 June 12 19:04 BST (UK)
Hi

I have just come across the site and wondered if it is authentic as there are four of my ancestrys listed and all details seem to be correct

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=SE&GSfn=e&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSdyrel=all&GSst=39&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=80213449&df=all&

I have found a couple of Canadian relatives on it who are correctly recorded and I have also looked at cemeteries I know in Northumberland, England. The photos I have looked at are genuine and the people posting the ones I looked at were real :)
Cemetery names can be a bit misleading in some cases though.

I'm not sure what you mean by authentic - the photos are provided by volunteers, and the information is submitted by whoever wants to add it.  I can't imagine anyone would make fake photos, but human error is always possible with the information.

Thank you for both of your replies, I suppose I was completely surprised to see photos of my acestors headstones from the USA, something that I could have only hoped for

If Steve Cumins read this I would also like to say thank you.

If you click on Steve Cumins name you can post a thankyou or contact him.

I've found Findagrave very helpfull over the years on a couple of my one name studies in the USA.

Hi

I have just sent Steve an email to thank him and he replied back with attachments of the original resolution in case I wanted to print them out.

So going back to my orginal question "is this site authentic" !! that is the proof in itself,

Regards

Ridgeback

RE:  Findagrave.com

It is as authentic as this forum.  It relies on the time and resources of volunteers to put the information and photos online.  If you have more information for a memorial, you can send information via the "edit" tab which will send the information to the person managing the specific memorial.  It is up to that person to either alter the information already there, or add the new material to the site.
