I've found an ancestor (1851 census) who's reputed to have been born at Nuncham (Nuncharn?) Gloucestershire but I can't find that on any of my maps. Have they moved or renamed the place or does it normally go under another well known name? ::)
Thanks

Newnham seems the nearest likely place http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/GLS/Parishes.html#N . What is the census reference? Is he in other censuses?

Thanks Stan. I'll look for the reference but the 1851 has Ann SPURGIN, aged 58, Nurse, Widow - born Nuncham so you'll probably find it faster that way. I'll post the ref ASAP anyway.

1851 reference is:
HO107; Piece: 1618; Folio: 402; Page: 3
Chart Sutton Kent
Edit to add:
Did a general search of 1851 with simply a keyword of "Nuncham" and it appears to be in any of three places - Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire or Northamptsonshire ::)
That doesn't help as it's still not showing on any of my maps ???

I think that the Oxfordshire one is supposed to be Nuneham (Courtenay) ;)
-
Excellent - thanks Rosie, it's a starting place to look for her birth anyway.

And in Northamptonshire is a Newnham, near Daventry

Have looked at the image, appears to be Nuneham - so perhaps Newnham on Severn in Gloucestershire

Thanks for your help mgeneas
I'll recheck all those places but so far I haven't found a baptism for Ann Coleman (abt 1792) at any of them. I'll keep looking but do appreciate everyone's ideas and assistance.
Thanks a lot :-*

Where was she married?
Rosie

Ann Coleman married Isaac Spurgin St Saviour Southwark Surrey on the 16 May 1814 by Banns (BOTP).
One witness was shown on other marriages, the last witness I can't read terribly well but doesn't appear to be related (as far as I know)
Isaac signed, Ann didn't (X her mark)

This looks like it's her:
Nancy Coleman bpp.29/1/1792 Newnham, Gloucestershire, dau. of Thomas and Mary.
Nancy another form of Ann.

I think it says George Tarryer :) As you said no help.
Annettes christening looks promising.

That certainly looks promising Annette - thanks.
I'll see if she married as "Nancy" or if there's any other references to a Nancy Coleman anywhere.
Thanks for the 2nd witness name Rosie - unusual surname and that may also be worth following as well.

Lady Di - we need to connect!! Ann Coleman Spurgin is my 3rd Great Grandmother and I am also trying to find her birth records - I think I may have a lead - thinking MAYBE Nuncham is Cheltenham, Gloucestershire!! This is close to an area where I have find DNA match Colemans! Just need to find the connection to Ann.

Hi sidneypuss
Welcome to RootsChat. Pleased to hear from you and "meet" another rellie.
I haven't done anything with DNA testing so your info might be the missing link in our tree and that's a BIG bonus.
Look forward to talking further.
Cheers

Hi Di! After I posted this I realized that you and I already know each other and have connected in the past about this part of the family.
It has been a while and look forward to catching up and see if we can solve this mystery about Ann Coleman! I have sent you an email.
