Hi again,
Had a look on 1871 census - free at Library and Archives Canada. The only James with a son Alexander in Merrickville is James, aged 58, born Scotland and a millwright. His wife is Catherine though- possibly second wife??? Kids at home are George 19, Cecilia 17, Alexander 16 and Lilian M 14.
This family is on 2 pages of the census. Here are James, Catherine, George and Cecilia on page 43 (need to scroll down to the second part of the image)

Here are Alexander and Lilian at the top of page 44

Hi again,
It appears that the James from above is married to Catherine in 1851. If it is your James, then he must have married Susan later. If not... this may not be your guy..

I did go back and check the marriage record for Alex and it definitely lists Susan as his mother but his birth in Merrickville and the census records RunKitty found seem to tie Alexander to James and Catherine. A "clerical error" on the marriage record?
Lily Atchison marriage James Wellington Armstrong and then married in 1886 to Henry Meikle. The Meikle marriage gives her mother as Catherine McDonald whereas the first marriage gave Catherine Atchison. Cecilia's marriage in 1874 to Francis Bissett also didn't list Catherine's maiden name.

Thanks Debbie and RunKitty. I had a look at the OCFA site but no Deborah Atchison/Atcheson is shown.

Perhaps you might find something useful from this site
http://cornwallroots.info/cms/cornwall/obits09/bmsobitstbl_maint.php?s_Deceased=atcheson&s_Spouse=&s_Volume=&ID=1243
The obituary for Mrs. Frank Bissett (Cecilia Atcheson). It states her parents were pioneers in the Merrickville area. Perhaps the first link has something useful on the parents.

Found the headstones photos for James and Catherine. Names spelt Aitchison. Both buried in Merrickville Union. Unfortunately nothing for Alexander or Deborah.

Hi,
You might also want to try the Merrickville library. They have a genealogy collection - including information on some pioneer families.

I live in a Merrickville house that was owned by Alexander’s parents from 1872 to 1912. The father James was a Millwright in Merrickville. He immigrated to Canada from Scotland.
The house was willed to Cecilia Bissett, (Alexander’s sister). In the 1921 Cecilia was listed as a widow. I would like to know what happened to her. Can anybody share the information in her obituary? I have been unable to find the obituary.
I also have information on Lily, Alexander’s other sister. Happy to share if there is interest.
