Hi
Not sure what proof you are looking for here.
There is an 1874 marriage for jessie Smith and Robert Walker which would fit. You can search for it and order certificate if you want https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/search/

Hi Jessie,

1874/12895 Jessie  Smith to Robert  Walker  exact date 31/10/1874

The marriage cert will show very little as the early registations only had
Bride and Groom

When and where married
Name and Surname
Age
Rank or profession
Condition
Name of officiating minister (or Registrar)
When registered

Signatures

Signatures of bride and groom
Signatures of the witnesses
Signature of officiating minister (or registrar)

This changed in 1880 when

Father's name and surname
Father's rank or profession
Mothers name and Maiden surname

was added.

As Robert was probably the informant for Janet's death her death "printout" would be a better option, printouts usually contain more information than a legal certificate as it is a copy of the register entry,

1886/3293 Walker  Janet  47Y

Cheers Janette

Hi Jessie

If you use the link above provided by Alex G. - and click on "Cemetery Search" (left side bar), you can search for the burial record of the Janet WALKER - aged 47, who died in 1886.

She was born in Edinburgh and according to the burial record, had been in NZ for 11 years - arrival c. 1875*.
[* We always urge caution with info supplied for death certificates as sometimes informants can be astray with the information they provide.]

Janet WALKER is buried with a number of others, some also named WALKER, who may or may not be related.  [Maybe you might recognise some of their names ? ]

Her last adddress was "Castle Street, Dunedin" and on checking local electoral rolls I can see there was a Robert WALKER listed as living in Castle Street  1870-71 / 1877 and 1879-80 (but not beyond that date ?? ).  [If Robert Walker the husband of Janet / Jessie was born c. 1852, then he is possibly too young to be listed on a roll in 1870-71.]

Hi again

... should have said also that the burial record for Janet WALKER (1886) stated she was "married".

I note that you are looking for passenger lists to NZ from c. 1870.

*  Do you have details of your Robert WALKER on any Scotland census returns ?

Thank you all very much once again I would be delighted if you could take a photograph if possible Alex G.
Robert Walker was born in North Berwick East Lothian in 1852 son of William and Jemima Redpath his wife  Janetwas born in Edinburgh in 1839 .
I believe that Robert married a Jane ( Jeannie Gibb ) who was actually Janet's cousin ( their mothers were both born with the surname King in East Lothan .
I have found a daughter through the NZ on line indexes Jemima Redpath Walker born to Jeannie and Robert who married George Thompson in 1919
and died in 1966.
Cheers

Have you checked this link provided by Lucy 2:-

Would this be the Janet Walker born 1839 died 1886?  I see there is photographs available of the headstone.

Will take the photograph at Andersons Bay Cemetery.

Hi Jessie - I am from New Zealand.  My great great grandmother was Jemima Redpath (born 1831 approx in Scotland) and great great grandfather William Walker.  They came to New Zealand on the Storm Cloud ship from Glasgow in 1860. They had come from East Lothian North Berwick.  The passenger list for the Storm Cloud lists Walker and Wife and 5 sons.  One of their sons was my great grandfather, James Redpath Walker, born in East Lothian in 1851.  I know of one other son, Archibald Redpath Walker. I note the connection with him you have from the Dunedin Cemetary website, with some of the Walkers buried there.  It is definitely my Jemima Redpath Walker and Archibald in that cemetery plot, but I do not know what the connection to Janet is.  Maybe there was another son being Robert? that you mention in your messages.
I would love to find out more about Jemima and your connections and hope you respond.
Cheers
Leafy

Hi Leafy,
Janet (Jessie ) Smith was the first wife of Robert Walker --she and his second wife  Jean (Jeannie Gibb) were related I can't remember of hand but I am sure they were cousins. I haven't access to my tree at the moment
Both were direct descendants of Robert Strathearn and Margaret King from Pencaitland East Lothian.

Margaret King was the sister of my gggg grandfather John King .

Hi Jessie
Thanks for that information.  It has helped me put some bits and pieces together.
My great grandfather (on my mother’s side) James Redpath Walker was the brother of Robert.  The family all seemed to have stayed in Dunedin.  My mother (grand niece of Robert) however left Dunedin just after she married in the 1940s, and moved to the North Island of New Zealand.
