Title: Pevreal/Pavreal Families Help please
Post by: pavreal on Sunday 19 August 12 03:12 BST (UK)
My ancestors travelled to NZ in 1863, although we do not know the name of the vessel and my branch of the family has lived in the Waikato ever since. My great-great grandfather was William (Pevreal I think or similar spelling).   My great grandfather was Israel.  My grandfather was Thomas Pavreal (Pevreal)  born in 1892 and he married Ina Alice Millard in 1915.
Any details you could provide on my great grandfather's family/relations and earlier history would be greatly appreciated.  The names Pavreal and Pevreal seem intertwined.

Yes she certainly did re-marry (John Deegan), although she was not buried with him, ending up in the same plot as William in Hamilton.  Where Deegan is buried is still a mystery.

[Will see if I can find it. ]   :D

.... ah no, forget that, it doesn't actually relate directly to your PAVREAL / PEVREAL family.

Hi again

As you seem to already have some knowledge of the PAVREAL / PEVREAL family, could you tell us please, just what type of information you are wanting for your great-grandfather ?

[For the earlier history of the family, you may get better information by posting a (separate) query on, say, the Gloucestershire board ? ]

Where Deegan is buried is still a mystery.

There's a John DEEGAN buried at Greymouth who may be a possibility ??

Died 1915 - aged 88 years - (born about 1827).

Hi Pavreal,

William also buried at Hamilton (see link above) - d. 1872 age 52 matches UK Census 1861.
I cannot find BDM records for either William or Ellen

Further to the above, BDM have replied to my enquiry......

Regarding William PAVREAL -
I have checked to see if a transcription error had occurred, but was unable to locate a record that matched the details provided.
It may be that the death was registered under different details, for example a different date or another name he may have been known by.

It is possible, however, that the death was never registered. You might like to look on the microfiche indexes available at most main libraries to see if you're able to locate a reference for him.

 Regarding Ellen PAVREAL -
This record was not found by your search as the surname had been transcribed as PARREAL. I have checked the record against the scanned original paper-based registration and as a result have amended the record to read PAVREAL. It should now be found by your search.

I do not have access to any library with death microfiche, but I agree with BDM that it would be worth checking there to see if his death can be found. I think it would be very unusual for Hamilton Cemetery to have a burial recorded of a death that was not registered - but who knows  ???

Hello John...

Perhaps the following:

1872/2327 - PETHERELL, William - NR

Unfortunately I can't narrow down the date of death as it's pre-1880.

Can't find him on Archway or PapersPast.

The Burial Locator CD says "Age not recorded" but does mention "Cambridge".

Perhaps someone with knowledge of Cambridge records can help eliminate him.

Will be visiting the library over the weekend so will check the fiche for a death registration area

Regards
Beg

Hi Beg,

Good find and it sounds promising.
An alternative spelling I came across was Peverell, so pretty close.
I'll check with BDM which might save you having to check the fiche.
Will post any reply received before the weekend.

Hi Beg,

BDM advise that the details for
1872/2327 - PETHERELL, William - NR
have been transcribed correctly from the original paper based registration.

Unfortunately, they are "unable to release any information from the record that does not appear on the website or advise you on which records to order, so cannot confirm whether or not this is the record you are looking for"

Not much help, I'm afraid  :(

I am undertaking some "Pevreal" family research. William and Elizabeth came to NZ from Chepstow in 1863 and William joined the Militia. There are many variations of the name in the last 200 years. William and Elizabeth had abt 6 children and Israel was one and another is my GGFather William. I am very interested in expanding my information and you are welcome to anything that I have.

Thank you John.  That would be wonderful.  I remember very little of my grandfather (Thomas, son of Israel) except that he was a very gentle elderly man, who used to sit in his lazyboy chair with the family's siamese cat curled up on  his head or shoulders.  He was a man of few words, was very much under my grandmother's thumb by all acounts and never spoke of his previous life.  I do know that he had a previous wife who died young and I think there were at least two children of that marriage.  Would love to know more about the family history, anectdotes, etc.

Hi there Pavreal, I'm also a descendant of William Henry Pevreal, and am attempting to establish a connection between him and my great-grandfather Edgar Alexander Pevreal, who was born in 1919 and passed away in 2005/6. Would you know anything about that side of the family? Likely candidates for his father would include Evan Pevreal, Richard Andrew Pevreal, one of George Pevreal's sons and perhaps even one of Arthur Pevreal's sons, if he had any.

Thanks,
Pev.

Hello everyone,
I am helping my sister trace her husband's tree and we have found the name PETHERILL very hard to find so are wondering if it is just another variation to add to your list! We have the marriage certificate for Annie KING  (married James LOGAN  14 June 1884 Wellington NZ) on it she states her parents are William KING and Sarah PETHERILL and that she was born in Gloucester, England and that she is 21 years old. We can not find a William King marrying Sarah Petherill so are wondering about your Sarah PEVERIL who would be about the right age and married John Thomas KING

1851 Census
Hewelsfield, Gloucester
HO107/2443/620/11
William PEVERIL, 32, Head, Mar, Labourer
Elizabeth, 31, Wife, Mar, born Chepstow, Monmouthshire, Wales
Sarah, 8, Daug
Hariet Peveril, 5, Daug
Mary Ann, 2, Daug
William Henry, 2mths, Son
All but Elizabeth born Hewelsfield, Glous

We have found Annie KING born March quarter1863 (which makes her the right age to be our Annie King) in Chepstow (UKBDM)  but don't know her parents. It would make her a wee baby if she come out with your family in July 1863.

We would be very interested to hear from anyone on this thread as to whether you think our Annie might tie in with the family you are tracing. The only bit that doesn't fit is her father being William seeing Sarah married John Thomas but thought it was worth asking in case you have found something we have missed.
