Hi,

We live in Canada, but use Genes Reunited as our family history all starts from the UK.

The other site we use is GenCircles at http://www.gencircles.com/

Their smart matching is less than smart and links you up with many mismatches, eg we have a George George in our tree and this is linked to every single person with the forename George and none with the surname George!!

Hello

this site is like Rootschat but it also has a feature to input family trees and to search through other family tree entries.

This is the main site
http://www.rootsweb.com/

This is the family tree site
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/

Hope this helps

Thats precisely why I dont use Genes Reunited. Too many mis-matches.   There is a much better site out there that does the same thing and is way better .

http://www.lostcousins.com/
It takes all your family from the 1881 census and matches them with other people's ancestors from the 1881 census.

So far I havent found any cousins yet :(

I suggested to Lost Cousins that they put the Canadian 1881 census on their site and they assure me it is coming later this year! :)

Another thought occurred to me along these lines........
did you konw that if you find your ancestor on the 1901 Canadian census at Automated Genealogy you can scroll to the bottom of the page and register as a researcher of that particular person? I have done this and made contact with other researchers..... :D

Hi Barb,

I have done that on the 1901 CDN census, but have had no luck contacting anyone, I am glad to hear that someone has though.

I think the problem is you have a space between lost & cousins.  I tryed typing it in without the space & got to the site.  Thanks for the link.

You're absolutely right  - no spaces between lost & cousins

But rootschat STILL will not let me paste or type in the correct url.

so NO spaces ok??

Can't resist - I'll give it a go:

Well, I tried copying and pasting the link, as well as manually entering the address, but it will not make the link. As soon as it is posted, it re-configures somehow and adds a space so that it won't work.

It was the space that was the problem
