Hi again Tony -

You're welcome

I found the burial details for Douglas Terry this evening at the library. His occupation is stated as a cotton salesman - I thought it would have said soldier.
Eventually found his grave- the numbering system in Flaybrick is often a challenge! I have a photo of the family grave - private Terry's name is at the bottom and says 'died of wounds'.

Ancestry has his pension details and medal index card - Liverpool Regiment number 15236.

Don't know why he's not on the CWG site.

I'll send the photos to you soon

Hope this helps

Neptune

Reference Douglas Terry its possible he could be a post discharge non commemorated soldier
You would need a death certificate if it was related to his wounds I think with a surviving record there's a good chance he will be added to CWGC

Maybe you could report him to the link above...he may already be on their radar

Tony re "PTE.33036 J NIELD  DIED 13/11/1918     TIMPERLEY  COM,CHRIST CHURCH "

Timperley is now part of Trafford and a local has created a website for all Trafford's War Dead, a massive work that's being going on since the 90s. It does have this soldier, mentions other memorials he's listed on & a few other details & they say they have a grave photo, so may be worth contacting them (shrunk link):

Website home page:

Best wishes with the project

Hi Tony

You're welcome -just pleased to find him.

If it's any help I did already have a newspaper report with a photo of private Terry's funeral at Flaybrick (for a different project) so I thought he must be buried there but just couldn't find him on the CWG site.
The report says he had a military funeral and a bit more background. The address is the same as Ancestry.
I'm at work at the moment but will check it again later. I can send it to you with the photos
if you'd like to see it
There's a D.Terry on the Birkenhead War Memorial.

Regards

pte douglas terry didnt die of wounds,he was shot in the back at trones wood on 10th july 1916 but recovered from this wound, but in december 1916,he developed valvular heart disease,if this was his cause of death, then hes not entitled to CWGC status

If it says anywhere on record VDH was attributable or made worse by Active Service then you should get a favourable result from MOD ...Death cert is the way forward

hi andy, death certificate on its way.

Post by: manmack on Monday 17 September 12 08:58 BST (UK)
hiya tony.
i.ve had a read of his records, the condition wasnt caused by his wounding, but the doctors attributed it to the stress of active service+training, the medical board stated that his condition will get worse, you need to send his pension records off to the CWGC as well as the death cert when it arrives,i think you may have some success if they see both documents
BTW.its not the CWGC who decide if a soldier gets commemorated, they only submit his details to the MOD

Not sure of the rules etc but just for information, my great uncle got a CWGC headstone and he drowned in 1919, circumstances unknown.  He was still in the forces at the time though.

In my various trips photographing graves it appears that some families did not want the official stone for whatever reason but preferred to commemorate on family stones.

hi Certacito , its not a headstone we are after for ,PTE 15236 DOUGLAS TERRY
its his name to be commemorated by the  MOD and the cwgc , to bring him in from the cold.
