My 3x great grandfather was in Galashiels at the time of the 1851 census and appeared to stay in the area until his death in 1894. He was a weaver so I am guessing he arrived there due to the boost in the textile industry brought by the railway.
I am struggling to work out where he came from as the census returns just list him as being born in England. Does anyone have any ideas where I go from here?

His Marriage Cert which should be on Scotlandpeople will confirm his Fathers Name/Occp.

I have his death cert it gives his parents as James Pratt and Sarah. There is just a line for her maiden name. the informant was his son in law.

Have just checked the death certificate and his dad is listed as a handloom weaver.

Thanks for finding Alexander, have looked at his birth record and it gives his dad's place of birth ;D.
