Title: Link: NEWCASTLE REGISTRARS' INDEXES (B & M)
Post by: Adamb on Friday 21 September 12 13:17 BST (UK)
Newcastle upon Tyne Registrar's Office has been helped by members of the Northumberland & Durham FHS, and others, to compile indexes of Births and Marriages registered in Newcastle District.  These indexes will certainly be MORE ACCURATE than GRO indexes!  There may even be entries that were accidentally omitted in the GRO indexes.

IMPORTANT: the indexes include parishes that were originally outside Newcastle, in the old Castle Ward District.

At the time of writing the dates covered are:

BIRTHS 1837 - 1870

The name of the child and the year of birth are supplied.

MARRIAGES 1837 - 1900

This index is more useful than the births in my opinion.  If you find the marriage reference you require, the name of the church and of the other spouse are often supplied.  You search over a 10-year period.  A search for RICHARDSON, Ralph 1841-1850 turned up 5 results, one of which was at Gosforth St Nicholas which in the 1840's was in Castle Ward District.
