I am looking for anyone who might know anything about the Clare family from Tomcoyle, Coolgreany in Wexford. My great grand father was Joseph James Clare and was living with his parents William and Mary Clare in Athboy Meath in the 1911 Irish Census. They are listed as been born in Wexford. I think that William and Mary were married in Coolgreaney In 1867.

Hi Stevie and welcome to rootschat
This is obviously your family in 1911
clare family athboy 1911 irish census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Meath/Athboy/Vessingtown/729071/)
This looks like William and Mary in 1901
clare family 1901 irish census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Dublin/Tallagh/Templeogue/1312538/)
No sign of Joseph with them though !
Do you know where Joseph was in 1901 ?
Do you know what Mary's maiden name was ?

Tara, Mary's maiden name was Francis. That is them on the 1911 census but not them on the 1901 census as there is a difference in their ages. I have there marriage in Wexford in 1867. I dont have Mary or Williams birth certs. I have Joseph's Brother James birth info. They were all born in Martins cottages in Ballsbridge and Baptized in Donnybrook Church. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated.

That is great Tara
I want to find out about the children of William and Mary and who they married,
When they married if they had children
I am also looking for information about Daniel Clare, Williams Father and also Mary Woolahan who i think was married to Daniel Clare.
I appreciate such a quick response from you ...your help is greatly appreciated
I am hoping that i can find out if somewhere along the line that "Strongbow" Richard De Clare is a past relation.

Hi there,
are you sure it's not them on the 1901 census as everything else matches ie place of birth and occupations.
Ages were often filled out incorrectly on census' for numerous reasons.
Have you found them elsewhere ?

The only Daniel Clare that I can see for a possible father for William is in Tomathone
daniel clare tomathone griffiths valuation (http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/wexford/kilnenor.htm)
There is also a Daniel Clare on the 1901 census
daniel clare wexford 1901 census (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Wexford/Coolgreany/Gurteen_Upper/1793134/)
He's about the right age to have been the son of William - do you think he is ?

Hi there,
There was a Daniel Clare married to a Margaret Woolahan and they appear to be the parents of the Daniel who I sent you on the 1901 census
birth daniel clare 1866 (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F5LS-MY8)
a quick look at the free index on ifhf shows that this Daniel Clare and Margaret Woolahan also had a son called James
I suppose it's possible that this Daniel (married to Margaret Woolahan) is a brother of your William but I can't find anything to prove this !

BTW
You need to ask the moderators to move this to the Ireland General board (as you are covering a few counties)
This will mean more people with Irish specific knowledge can help too !

You probably have this already but shall post just incase

Tara that is great,
There was a Daniel Clare who was born to Daniel Clare and Mary Woolahan in Wexford and then William and Mary(nee francis) had a Daniel Clare baptized in Donnybrook. I think this was the same Daniel as i think he was born before William and Mary Francis were married. Back in those days this is what happened in Ireland and i think that this is the same Daniel in the 1901 Census in Wexford as his age matches up.

Moderator Note : Topic has been moved to Ireland General board

Could very well be Tara. There was various spellings of the name on different forms. I think there was also a sister Catherine for Daniel and Mary woolahan

Was there ever mention of your Joseph having a sister called Rose
This looks like the possible marriage if so !

Rose Clare was the daughter of Joseph Clare and Mary Clare (nee Bellew) who married in Athboy and she was born in Meath. Lot of info there for me to sort through. this is all great help to me Tara. William and Mary Clare( nee Francis) lived in Martins cottages when they had Joseph, James, Christopher and William
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Meath/Grennanstown/Grennanstown/1620624/ is the link for Mary Bellew

The Rose Clare that I sent you the marriage for was the daughter of William Clare and Mary Francis !
Tara
-
William Clare and Mary Francis didn't have a Rose Clare as a daughter...they had 3 daughters ...all of them died within a year of there births Mary Anne Clare 1872 died of small pox in 1872 3 months old, Mary Margaret Clare born 1875 died fourth of April 1877 and a second Mary Margaret Clare born 1878 died 1878 1 month old

Have sorted through all the info provided. William George Redmond son of Rose Redmond nee Clare was the nephew of My Great Grandfather Joseph Clare who died in Oakley Park, Kells, Meath in 1932. So this confirms that Rose Clare was a Daughter of William Clare and Mary Clare nee Francis. I am awaiting Baptismal certs from St. Mary's on Haddington Road for some of the Clare's you previously listed. ;D especially Joseph's.
