Hi,

I have the Gwynedd Family History Society Memorial Inscriptions Book for Saint Cwyllog Church, Llangwyllog and there is no sign of William in it.

Perhaps the grave is unmarked.

Hi Anne-Elaine,

There are no "Rogersons" shown in the book at all.

Do you know his address in Llangwyllog or any other family detail that may help to trace the family and their final resting place?

Alan

The image from the Llangwyllog burial register gives William Rogerson's abode as Bethesda. There are also the following burials in Llangwyllog:
Mary Rogerson - Tangrisiau, Llangristiolus -21 Nov 1929 - 92 years
Mary Ann Rogerson - Cartref, Valley - 23 Jan 1942 - 71 years

'Cartref, Valley' is the term usually used for what was known as Valley Hospital

Hi Anne-Elaine,

Looking at the censuses, it seems that William was actually born in Dublin, Ireland.

His family were in Islington, London in 1851 (9 children - all born in Dublin apart from one born in Liverpool). He was an Elastic Fabric Merchant.

In 1861 he was in Hackney, London with 3 of his children described as a Retired Merchant. His wife Ann J appears to have died in London in 1862 (Free BMD).

In 1871 he (widower) is in Liverpool described as a Hatters Trimmings Seller.

A family tree on Ancestry suggests his parents were John Rogerson (1774) and Mary Anne Bell(1776) both born Dublin.

If you need more detailed information please let me know.

Alan

Hi Anne-Elaine,

Have you seen a web site - Sir John Rogerson - Turtle Bunbury? It is principally about Dublin Docklands but gives an overview of Sir John Rogerson's life.

He lived 1646-1724 married Elizabeth Proby.

His eldest son John (1676-1741) became Chief Justice of Ireland. He married Elizabeth Ludlow, had 5 children (4 girls) and the son John (1719-1785) is said to have died unmarried age 66.

I have not found any links nor can I find any of William Bell Rogerson children's births in Ireland (without possibly searching records for a fee).  The only son born in England was George Nugent Ippersal Rogerson in Liverpool in 1846. A strange set of names, which could suggests some links to other families?

There is a suggestion that Sir John Rogerson's younger son was William Rogerson and that William's  wife Alice (or Alicia Molyneux) remarried Sir Richard Wolseley after William's premature death. I wondered if a connection could be made from this line? Maybe there was a child from her marriage to William before she remarried?

Just some thoughts that may help. I will keep looking to see if anything crops up.

Alan

HI Tutle bunbury phoned me up i emailed him.
But as you can see no one new about Sir john, as Tutle said who was his farther were did he come from
we did have a wedding docket my aunt took it to Dublin in the 60's and they just said it may not be real
if it had been now they could have found out. but i do not know the names on the docket
as far as i can make  out we came from a first marriage
the only  marrage docket we can find after my aunty's death is a Ann Jane Mcgill born 1807 and William Bell Rogerson born 1799 married in  Dublin 1824,  farther was John Rogerson.
Maybe i should take a look at what you said about William
sounds about right were would  the child have gone? as far as i know it was cast aside no one new about  it  Mmmmm makes me think !!!! and with it been a first marriage
My Aunt was the only one that would talk about it but i left it to long to ask
Mmmmm it was always said his 1st marrige and all the money went to his second in Dublin O i dont know lol
anyway thanks for your help
Hope to hear from you again

Hi Anne-Elaine,

No other joy I'm afraid. I think I will have to admit defeat!

Maybe now is the time to consider -

1) Posting a full message on the Ireland "Rootschat" Board to see if a local expert has a more specialized knowledge/response of the Rogerson family in Dublin and

2) Contact a researcher in Ireland to do some investigative work on your behalf.- see National Archives of Ireland web site. I wondered if perhaps the wills/probate details of John Rogerson (if you could find them) may give any clues in establishing the link you seek.

I am thinking that maybe William Rogerson was married before only because he was about 26/27 when he got married to Alicia Molyneux   married for about 4 years or so he got a fever and it killed him
we were told that money went to a second wife
I would think if  he did have a first wife and they had a child it would have been called William Rogerson too like his child with Alicia  Molyneux  that also got a fever a few years befor william and passed as a baby
I have only got about 30 years  or there about missing
Just need the missing link
