I am searching for parents of Thomas Turnbull, born about 1795 Hobkirk, Later lived at Palace Hill farm, Ancrum when he married Ann Oliver. In 1851 he was an innkeeper of the BLACK BULL INN SELKIRK I also cannot find a death date for him on SP. Wondering if anyone else has him in their tree.
Thanks ab

AB The minister at selkirk Parish church (no name given) made entries in a diary with the odd comment on some of his parishoners who decided to emigrate even to England! It list a Miss Turnbull (no christian name) a milliner, of the Black Bull, Market Place married to
an Mr A. HALLIE and emigrated to USA 1856. I looked for a wedding Turnbull/Hallie but nothing but I did find a Andrew Heatlie marrying a Mary Turnbull in Selkirk 9-12-1854 . Possibly the old writing Hallie could be Heatlie . His diary and Kirk Session records were given to the Scottish record office many years ago.
It may or may not help.
Does the 1851 census records show a Mary?

I don't have any information re Thomas Turnbull, but his wife Ann Oliver was my ancestor. She was born in 1806 in Jedburgh, Scotland and married Thomas Turnbull on 11 December 1829, She died on 26 January 1889 in Jedburgh. I don't know if that helps you at all.

Only just found your message. Yes this is the same Ann Oliver married to Thomas Turnbull . I still have not found a death date for him, but have not done much researching for a while. Thankyou anyway for replying. Thomas,s son Adam had a daughter Annie, who we are descended from.

Thomas Turnbull died in Selkirk in 1862 - no age is shown on the death index entry.
He died aged 65 on 20/5/1862 Selkirk - shown as Innkeeper and wife as Ann Oliver. His parents are shown as James Turnbull, farmer and Mary nee Oliver (both deceased). Informant was son Thomas Turnbull.

Thankyou so much for that info.Annette. I gave up searching for his death as could not be sure the ones I found were him, but he was an innkeeper at Selkirk 'Black Bull Inn" so you certainly have the correct person. I also knew his father was James but did not know his mother was Mary.
Many thanks

For "alessandralee"
Seems we're related! Thomas Turnbull was my great great grandfather who married Ann Oliver.
They had 4? children - Mary, Andrew, Jane and Thomas.
Andrew was my great grandfather.
You're on Ann Olivers side - where do you come from?

In the 1861 census I can see Adam was back living with his parents together with his wife Elizabeth and their son Thomas. So obviously they had Annie after that date.
They were staying at 10 Market Place, Selkirk.
Adam's dad Thomas died in 1862.
So we are connected, as Thomas Turnbull was my great great grandfather.

Thanks for getting in touch. My late husbands grandmother was Annie Turnbull born 1874. Her father Adam was the first born son [1832] of Thomas Turnbull and Ann Oliver.
Annie was born in Edinburgh , where her father worked as a baker ,but she died in Aberdeen
I have your G.G.Grandfather Andrew,s death in 1881 ,but do not know where. Do you know wher he died?
I live in South Australia. My husband,s name was Charles, by the way.
