I live in Italy and I've got an historical property in Atina province of Frosinone that belonged to the De Troia family that emigrated to Coatbridge during the early 1900 and it was sold around the end of the 1940s. I've been searching at the comune and now I've got up to Coatbridge and found the family grave stone and seen on a web site that they had a cafè in the center of Coatbridge.
Can anyone help me to find information about the family if there is a relative left in Coatbridge or in Scotland? He was called Di Troia Raffaele born in Atina on the 10th september 1879 and is wife was called De Luca Rosa born in Atina born on the 20th july 1878.
Thank you in advance.

There is this death on Scotlandspeople but it would need to be ordered to see spouse and parent details
1980 DITROIA BENEDETTA Not Permissible REID aged 76 at DALKEITH /MIDLOTHIAN
-
There has also been a fairly recent marriage in the same area so it looks like there are still family members living in scotland.
ADDED
Death which can be viewed on Scotlandspeople
1952 DI TROIA RAFFAELE TROIA aged 72 at COATBRIDGE OR OLD MONKLAND /LANARK
-
Death of Rosa which can also be viewed
1961 DI TROIA ROSA TROIA aged 81 at COATBRIDGE OR OLD MONKLAND /LANARK

Thank you very much for the information, up to now I never came accross Benedetta, also this week I hope to go the Italian archives and do larger search on any other possible members of the family.
Its a bit difficult because it goes back a long way in history but I hope to find as much as I can.
Also for me its important to find some photographs of that period when they visited Italy and came to their house because In the future its important for me to conserve its original landscape and the house front view.
Thank you again

PS could you explain what its "reid" means.
Thank you

Hi Aldo
Welcome to RootsChat :)
Lovely stories and recollections here regarding the cafe:
.....was Di Troia's cafe, and when open, a chip shop. Built onto the railway banking and abutting the bridge parapet this was our little bit of Italy. Lawrence Di Troia, wife Lizzy and brother Tony worked the little cafe, and when encouraged by the locals, the chip shop to the right of the cafe.....

Hi Aldo
I think Benedetta is from a different Di Troia family with her parents marriage being
1901 DI TROIA MARCO and GLASS MARY at ST GILES EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN
The earliest birth for the Coatbridge family appears to be
1908 DI TROIA LORENZO at COATBRIDGE OR OLD MONKLAND /LANARK
-
Thank you Sancti, Thank you Monica, Thank you Anne,
In Italy I have found that article on the internet regarding Coatbridge memories when it talks about Lorence and Tony are Lorenzo born in Scotland on the 22th of may 1908 and Antonio born in Scotland on the 4th of february 1915.
Yesterday searching on the internet I found a reference on an internet page findpeoplefree that there is a name in Coatbridge: Di Troia (*) I tried to contact it but its always engaged.
I hope to find other info.
Thank you for all your help again.

I worked beside mick de troia in Coatbridge early 70's he was a lovely old man. Think he lived town head area
-
PS could you explain what its "reid" means.
It means that Benedetta Di Troia's other surname was Reid. So either she was Benedetta Reid married to a Mr Ditroia, or she was Benedetta Ditrioa married to a Mr Reid.

A booklet written by Bob McMillan called 'Sunnyside and life in the 50's' has a picture showing the outside of the café.

Hi Aldo,
In the lair book for the eastside plots of St Joseph's Cemetery, Airdrie, there is a burial for Antonio Di Troia (aged 2) who died on 27 May 1914. His address as 151 Main Street, Coatbridge. He is buried in section L plot 636.
Also buried in the same plot is one year old Eldora Soave from 27 Bank Street, Coatbridge.

Hi, thanks for replying. Is that the same Di troia family that Aldo is looking for?
I don’t recognise those names but it could be my great grand fathers brothers or sisters family. Did they come from attina?
-
Yes .. I have quite a few in my tree
