Could someone please tell me if there is anyway of finding these records? Eliza Dyer and John Horgan. married Coolbanagher 20 Aug 1861. I would like to buy the certificate but can't find the details to help as I don't know if they married in a church or not and am unsure what religion they were. ??? many thanks

If the marriage was non-Catholic then it would be included in civil records, and you can check for it on the usual BMD Index, and if you find a possible match, order a cert from the GRO.
If the marriage was Catholic then you would have to check for a church record of the marriage as these were only included in civil records from 1864.
see : Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)
how do you know the date for the marriage ?

your previous topic on the Dyer family stated that the marriage was in a registry office - see :
Re: Joseph DYER from Emo (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,539103.msg3930403.html#msg3930403) (reply #8)
I presume this is the extracted version of the marriage from FamilySearch :
Groom: John Horgan
Bride: Eliza Dyer
Marriage date: 20 Aug 1861
Marriage place: Coolbanagher, Queens Co.
Groom's father: Jeremiah Horgan
Bride's father: Joseph Dyer
Ref.: p259 ln67
see : https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FGCC-QJF
and the corresponding BMD Index reference (the year and page number and general area match the extracted record) :
Name: Eliza Dyer
Registration district: Mountmellick
Event type: Marriage
Year: 1861
Volume: 8 / Page: 259
the fact that this is included in the Civil BMD Index means that it was a non-Catholic or Registry Office marriage.
You can use the Index references to order a research cert, which will give you a few more details on the marriage, from the GRO by post. See :

Thank you Shane. That was exactly what I was after. I wasn't sure just how to proceed from finding the family search info. Heartfelt thanks....

Maybe they married in the C of I Church in Coolbanagher? Records held in RCB Library in Dublin. I know that there were Dyers in the parish.

I have the marriage certificate now, thanks. They were married in the parish church at Coolbanagher.
Now, can anyone tell me just where Killamy is? I have searched the townlands and can't find it.!! :D
-
The only townland I see in Coolbanagher parish beginning with 'Kil' is 'Killimy'
What's the context of the 'Killamy' address - bride or groom ?
The marriage would usually take place in the bride's current parish of residence, but the groom could be from another area.

Killimy is a townsland next to Coolbanagher - but is part of the parish of Coolbanagher.
Happy & Healthy New Year to all,

:)Thank you all. Found it! marriage cert gives both parties as coming from Killamy.Obviously a spelling mistake.
Happy new year to you too.

Have found it spelt both ways in old records. Coolbanagher is also spelt Coolbengher etc. Surnames change depending on the Rector of the time - I presume so much was spelt phonetically!
Good wishes again,

Hello again Danish Dots...more questions!
If they died in Killimy, would they be buried at Emo?? I have a lovely list of births and burials from the RCB library in Dublin. The list of burials just say where they died ie
William Dyer 11/05/1838 Killany
Joseph Dyer 16/07/1869 Killany,
Mary Dyer 06/06/1851 Killany.....
On the trail of gravestones now !!

Hi again,
Yes is they were 'C of I - but RC were sometimes buried in St. John's Graveyard in Coolbanagher too. Have collated most of the burials for the church - when I get to sit down tonight I will have a search for you.
I know that there are Dyers.
Will come back asap,

Hello again. I was wondering if you have any info on marriages at St Johns Coolbanagher? I am looking for a marriage between Joseph DYER and Mary ? Their first child was born 1831 so presumably they would have married around then.I am trying to establish who Mary was !
Thanks again. Mila :)
